Hey, I have a soundblaster live 5.1. I was wondering something. I've ripped all my cd's onto my hard drive over the past year in 16 bit audio. If I get the Audigy card will I be able to rip in 24 bit audio with special software? Second thing, do I technically have to rerip my audio in 24bits if I want 24bit sound, or will the 24bit card make my 16bit audio sound better anyway?

Mainly I'm concerned with sound quality. I have thousands of tracks all in 16 bit that I burn in compressed format to cd's and play in my car. But I want the BEST sound while still keeping it compressed of course. So does that mean I have to go and rerip everything in 24bits now? And if that is possible, will I really notice a sound difference from 16 to 24bits? Help, thanks!

Well, the Audigy won't make your 16-bit sound files sound any better after they're burned & played in your car. You'll need to re-rip for that.

I'm no big audio buff, though, so I'm not sure on the rest of your questions. Although I'm kinda doubting that the Audigy will just make your 16-bit ripped files sound any better, unless the SB Live just has lower all-around sound quality.

Your CDs are 16 bit.

Playing back 16 bit files in a 24bit mode will not make them sound better.
