Audigy vs Audigy 2?

OK guys, I need help on deciding which sound card to get. All I'm gonna be using it for is to listen to music using Winamp. I know the difference between the 2 sound cards in specs, but what I want to know is will there be a noticeable difference in terms of sound quality going from the Audigy to the Audigy 2? I dont really care for the midi stuff and the EAX 3 support stuff..., all I want is really crisp and clear sound. My setup is a 4.2 system (ie. Logitech z2200 and an Altec Lansing ACS48). What do you guys think?

When I changed from an Audigy to Audigy2 the sound got a little clearer and especially the highs benefitted. A very noticable difference to my ears, but most other people probably won't notice it as much (most people I know seem to find there is no difference between 320Kbit mp3 and ape for example, I can hear it).

OK, I just ordered the Audigy 2. Should have it in my hands in a few hours... :)

I have an audigy 1, and don't mind it. Much better then my old turtle beach!

anyway, ultimatly, the card will only sound as good as your speakers or headphones. So, if you have a cheap pair of crapy speakers, you might not even notice a diffrence.

Any other insights on Audigy vs. Audigy 2? I'm looking at the same choice but for gaming more than music. I'm currently using the onboard sound on my A7N8X (non-deluxe) with a Monsoon 2.1 setup and I have not been real pleased with it, especially in BF1942. I think my AWE64 with same speakers sounded better. Any comments are appreciated, thanks.

I also play BF1942, started playing with an Audigy, then moved to an Audigy 2 ZS (same thing as A2, but with 7.1/DTS). There was a noticeable improvement in spatial pronoucement / clarity, for surround sound in 4.1. **However, I'm using 2 amps with stereo bookshelf speakers. Cheapo PC speakers may not show that much of a difference.

One definite though, either an Audigy or Audigy2 will be a big improvement from your current onboard sound.
