Is there much noticable differences between the original SB Audigy and the Audigy 2. Just want to upgrade from onboard audio and will be using it to listen to music and for gaming. I would appreciate replies from anyone who has owned both and use it for similar stuff. Thanks in advance! Todd.
 
Not noticeable, but the noise floor is certainly lower with the audigy 2. However, I think it is smart to go for the 2zs. Lower noise floor and you get the ability to go multi-stereo instead of the craptacular cmss surround upmix.

If you have a multichannel setup, go 2zs.

If you have a 2.1 system.... maybe you should go for something like the Emu 0404.
 
Huge difference. ;)
The top end one the original Audigy cards was thin and tinny sounding.
(it has one of the worst DAC's ever put in a consumer audio card)
 
thanks, I believe the Audigy 2 ZS will be my choice.....Either of you ever purchased a refurb from Creatives ebay store......the prices seem a bit more fair than retail........
 
I have got a few different sound cards from them.
The first two arrived without any problems at all.
The tracking number they sent for the one I bought the other day is bogus, I guess I get to find out just how well their Ebay store customer support works. ;)
 
I guarantee you won't be able to tell a difference in general music listening. If the Audigy has all the in/out options you need, don't spend more for the number "2."

By the sound of misterX's post above, it seems there would be some difference. I'm sure there wouldn't be much difference with crappy speakers though.
 
I have owned both and heard a difference between the two. Using a pair of DT440s, I thought the sound was a bit shrill and just lacking in overall dynamics compared to the 2 ZS.
 
In terms of gaming performance, is there a difference? I have my Revo 7.1 if I want to listen to something and have it sound nice; I don't care about the quality of sound for my gaming card. With BF2 I'm just getting hit too hard by the sound card and am going to get a low-end creative to use.
 
If your going to use it to listen to music then I would suggest a Revo or a X-Mystique instead, if you notice the 5-7 fps drop in games then get a faster video card. ;)

You won't get hardware support for EAX with a Revo card. Only up to EAX 2 and that's only in software.

I am in the process of writing a little FAQ to cover these things, so look for it in the coming weeks. Hopefully it will answer your questions more in-depth.

I guess you misunderstood my questions. I know that my Revo is shit for gaming because of a lack of hardware EAX. But is there a difference in performance between an Audigy 1 and an Audigy 2. I don't care how it sounds
