Audigy 2 ZS Question

I recently bought a G430 and I was wondering for better 7.1 support or to use it at it's best potential should I plug it into my Audigy 2 ZS or my on board for my Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P?
 
I can't imagine the little USB dongle that comes with that set could provide better audio than an Audigy 2 ZS. Also, there is no "7.1" when it comes to headphones anyway. Whether it's the dongle or the soundcard, you're relying on positional audio processing to provide "surround sound".

In any case, I'd plug that set directly into the sound card and just check it out. If it's better or worse it's not like you're incurring any risk. Try 'em both out and see which one you like more :D
 
Is my Audigy 2 ZS still a better option than my onboard for my Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P? I already knew going into this purchase that little USB was a POS lol
 
The ALC889A on your board has a lot of similar specifications to the Audigy 2 ZS and probably isn't terrible, but it's my opinion that dedicated cards will provide better audio than on-board solutions in a lot of cases. Give the on-board a shot, if it's peachy for you, call it day.

Otherwise, I think it would be worth your time to poach that Audigy from your older machine if even just to test it out.
