Audigy 2 ZS Positional Audio Issue

I have an Audigy 2 ZS in my desktop, and my OS install was a bit fucked after I got a virus, so I stuck in an HD with a backup from a couple of months ago. Ever since then, I've been having a strange issue in games where all the sounds are coming from different directions than they should be coming from. It's a huge pain, since in games like FEAR Combat I can't tell which direction people are coming from. The issue isn't game-specific as I've tried UT2004/3, HL2 Ep2, and Painkiller and it happens in all of those games as well. I uninstalled the drivers and updated to the latest version, but it had no effect. If anyone can help me fix this, I would really appreciate it.

*I'm using headphones with 2/2.1 speakers set in the Audio Console, on Windows XP SP2.
 
the 1st obvious thing would be to make sure that the speakers arent reversed in software or in hardware- do the left speaker right speaker test and make sure it comes out ok
 
You know, I never bothered to check that until you suggested it. Turns out it was the cheap 3.5mm extension wire I was using, which somehow was reversing the channels. I switched it for another one and the channels seem to be correct now. Thanks for the help :D.
