Audi Says 2.1M Cars Have 'Cheat' Emissions Software

This might be hard for you to wrap your head around, but it's a speck of sand in a gazillion specks.

Drive around your city. But first, roll down your windows... and breathe deep. Smell that?? Nasty, isn't it? Many cars on the road pour out far more than a "cheating" Turbodiesel.

It's overblown. And harming consumers that had nothing to do with it will change absolutely nothing. Well, other than make climate alarmists feel good about themselves. Get over yourself.

Any cars bought back will be sold to third world countries anyway. Net effect to the environment: zero. And never mind that most of the world doesn't play by our rules when it comes to polution.

The emissions this software was dodging weren't greenhouse gasses, they were Nox smog contributors and chemicals with known health effects and common allergies. There are serious reasons for these things being policed. Yes today more cars are polluters than clean, but that's what change is all about. Today is X and tomorrow is Y. These laws are in place to help slowly change things for the better. These emission laws were only put into effect in 2008, it takes a LOT longer than 7 years for these effects to reach everyone.

The EPA has been regulating vehicle emissions of HC, CO, and NOx since 1970.

It is strange that VW diesels are getting all this coverage about being "dirty" when they produce a fraction of the HC and CO (greenhouse gases) gas vehicles produce. Also noteworthy is the timing of this "revelation" of a story that is almost two years old.

Fuck acid rain. It never happens. It is just a conspiracy!

This forum full of IT people is laughable sometimes.

Looks like it came out now, because VW didn't fix it when they had the chance. They were notified when teh report was submitted in 5/14 and the recalled 500k cars to fix it in 12/14 at some point after that it was determined that they didn't fix it...that's why they're fucked.

If this had been an accident (or was even possible that it was an accident), they still might have gotten off with a slap on the wrist, but this wasn't an accident. If you watch business news, you'll see that everyone is in shock...and nobody is excusing VW....there is no excuse.

Here's an interview with one of the researchers.
