ATX or BTX?

Howdy,

I'm currently looking to purchase one of two cases from Lian-Li. One is BTX compatable, the other is not. Should I get a BTX case or will ATX be fine?

Is BTX really coming, and if so, should computer case buyers jump on board, or will ATX suffice for a few years?

Stick with ATX. BTX is all but dead, a starndard invented by Intel to try and prove its market dominance. There aren't many setups that need a BTX case on the market, and ATX will easilty suffice for a while yet. Unless any of the parts you are going to order need a BTX case, don't get it.

While I do agree that ATX is probablly all you need now, BTX is far from dead, and is probablly coming, might just be a while especially in the computer builder market, as case manufacturers have no need yet to switch to the BTX form factor.

However, as the big boys, Dell etc have increasingly began to ship BTX, more and more BTX parts are being built, and once they become the average PC user's machine, ATX will take the backseat.

Hm, two very different opinions. I'm deciding between the V1100plus and the PC-767.

From what I've read, the V has better noise reduction and cooling (and wheels!), but the PC is BTX compatible. I just don't want to have to buy a new case in a year or two.

I would be happy with either one really.

If BTX is coming though, the PC-767 seems like the better bet, although the V1100plus has a better internal design.

I would go with teh 1100...the V1000 has gotten nothing but stellar reviews.

I think we are talking more along the lines of 5 years before a needed BTX upgrade, I would probablly still lean towards an ATX case myself. I think ATX standard parts will be made for many years more, as BTX does not have the obvious advantages that ATX had over AT

Anyway, as UltimaParadox said, BTX is on its way, but it will be a slow adaptation. If it was me, I'd like the option of being able to convert to it if, or when, the time came.

Edit: BTX is more of an evolution of ATX as ATX was from Baby AT.

Ah, I see this post was moved from General Hardware to Case Modding.

The reason I did not post in Case Modding is because my question had to do with general hardware, and not Modding of any sort.

Any more opinions on ATX vs BTX. Which one should I buy now?
