It has come to my attention that we have a TON of BF2'ers here.

Why don't we think about picking a weekend day or evening and putting together an [H] BF2 Weekend?

I really suck, but I'd still love to play and BS with you guys!

Maybe someone knows of, or has access to a private server we could use? Maybe a game once a week or every couple weeks?

Your thoughts please. :)

Plain BF2 ? If so count me in. We need a [H] bf2 server/

IN GAME - jackmehofferlol

If anyone can help out with server ideas, please let us know. :)

I checked EA and they want about 500 a month for a 64 ranked.

so are you asking for a non ranked server? lol, i can run a 16 person map on my server... Due to it only being a PII 400mhz and 192mb or ram. All i use it for is local LAN games and my webserver and file samba server.... lol....

Well it's up to the consensus of course. I'm thinking we'd all prefer a ranked solution, I know I would because I like the badges and ribbons.

I know a lot of the guys care about stats, and I can't say I don't, so I'd like to have an all around solution to make everyone happy.

I think there should be a ranked server...... my in game name Hupo224

what about a pool? 10 bucks a month per person? I would be well worth it to have a [H] password protected server!

I would be more inclined to play on a ranked server. Problem is... I don't wanna pay for it. So... if we had to pay for it then I vote unranked. lol

I know that 2gigs had a BF2 server going for a while. That monster BF2 clan thread is around here somewhere...

FYI, the have it on clearance at all staples for $19.90!

Thanks you sir, I'll be going to Staples either tonight or tomorrow, and you can count me in to play now.

In game name will probably be Zzero.

When I went there was only one copy at mine left and that was two days ago, so they are probably running out everywhere.

I'm in

Ingame Nick - {uZa}Commando

Who's going to provide the server? It would be best if we had a 64 man

Can anyone host a ranked server? How exactly do you do so? I wouldn't mind hosting a BF2 server on my laptop while actually playing the game on my desktop.

Nobody can host a ranked server. Only a certified EA provider can do so. EA has some pretty strict rules on who can or can not host a ranked server. They're stat database is very precious to them ;)

Not to mention that your laptop will most likely not be able to handle hosting a 64 man server. A BF2 server takes up an enormous amount of resources.

Their suppossedly a very good hosting company, as the whole Total BF2 network is running off of them. $225 for a ranekd 64 slot = pretty darn good!

I would DEFINITELY love a ranked server, as I love the shiny award graphics as well. However as far as paying, Here's a few ideas/problems:

a) Admins are required to contribute, just as they do for most "real" clan servers.
b) If it results to a monthly payment from the [H] users, then the server should be up 24/7, and not just once a week - at least that's how I feel.

Another issue with the [H] users paying is each user would NOT have a "gauranteed{" slot on the server. In essence, their paying for [H] to have a server, but they are NOT guaranteed a slot at any time - It's like if a person payed for genmay, but only a 64 users are allowed into the forum at once. As big as this forum is, that would be rather problematic in accessing the forum.

As far a matches, that would be awesome, to have matches vs [H] users, however if you wanted it pasword protected, you'd definitely either have to have someone host the server on a spare rig, or purchase an unranked server as I'm sure most of you guys know, ranked servers CANNOT have a password.

These are just a few things that went off in my head when I read the OP. Not trying to sound pesimistic, just trying to provide a few "warnings" and ideas, that you guys can either use, or flush down the toliet.

Give me a minute and I'll locate as many reasonable (prices) BF2 Ranked providers I can find.

I don't want to make this thread go off topic or anything but these guys are a better deal:

http://hypernia.net/game_servers/index.html

Dealt with them myself, excellent customer service and for $150 a month, you can get a server guaranteed to house 75 players with no lag.

BTW - A solution your "contributors not being guarenteed spots" problem is to open up reserved slots and put their names on the list. That's what I do for my clan members.

Wow, I completely forgot about Hypernia. Good save!

Back onto the Reserved slots; the idea was for ALL members to contribute about $10 a month. If ALL forum members who want to play contribute, or even more that 64 members, then what? What happens to the others who paid? I hope that clears this up a little better.

However, if they require only those who want a GUARANTEED slot, that's a little different. They owuld definitely have to put a limit though. Once again, if members want a reserved slot, chances are it'll be hard for other members to join in. Sure not everyone is on at once, but as big as [H] is, I, personally, still see a little issue.

Like I said, I'm giving WORSE case scenarios, but I figured it's better to have Rich think about these first before this goes live.

Acer Travelmate TM8104WLMi, Pentium M 2.0 GHz, 1.0 GB DDR2 533, 100 GB 5400 RPM HDD, ATI Radeon x700 w/128 MB, DVD-/+RW, Gigabit LAN.

Not a beast, but shouldn't it be enough?

Needs more CPU power and more memory

jnick - thanks for the clarification but I doubt that [H] members would want to pay $10 a month to play on 1 server when there are 10,000 other servers out there that are free. Hopefully there's a nice guy out there who wants to donate the server to [H] on the weekends and use it for his own needs during the week.

I'm sure Rich has a plan ;)

Nope, not a clue one. :D

I literally posted this thread about 30 seconds after I had the idea.

I wouldn't mind paying 10 a month personally, but thats upto everyone.

It would be mighty nice for EA to donate us a server, don't ya think?

We could even make the banner say: Bandwidth Donated by EA. ;)

I don't think they're that generous - even with the bandwith banner :D ;)

No, but one could dream. ;)

In looking at that link, if we had 64 players, we'd be looking at like 5 bucks a month.

I just don't see people participating without us being ranked.

Why not do it yearly? Every year each user has to pay a certain price, like gen-may; rather than be bothered with a monthly fee.

Alright, well here is some food for thought:

If we were to rent a Hypernia server at 150 a month.

If we had 64 guys willing to pony up we'd all have to put in 29 dollars.

We could run it public all week, and then whatever night we were all going to game together we could password it.

Sounds interesting. Dont know how many people will want to pay 29 though.

Well we can only offer and see what we can come up.

I'd definately be down for contributing for a {H] ranked server. Would the pricing be much better for, say, 40 man server? I generally prefer 20 v 20, large enough to be really fun, but small enough you still have a great shot at Gold/Silver/Bronze.

How would we work out server rules? Maybe contributors control voting for setting map rotations and rules? For example, my three favorite maps are Sharqi, Karkand, and Wake Island (only if americans actually reach land).

Well I don't believe pricing would be any better because its a flat rate up to 75

Also map rotation is a big deal to think about as well.

I prefer urban maps, I don't like the big sprawlers personally, but I'd say we'd all have to vote on what we want.

24 hour Kirkland!!!!!!!!

Only map I really enjoy. I heard the expansion has alot more maps like Kirkland that are closed quarters and not that forever roaming around stuff. Would this server support the expansions and booster packs?

According to their webpage yes.

When you place your order, specify which games you'd like installed to run as servers.

So we could probably run some Vanilla and some SF.

Personally, I'd love to see some EF maps (and AF when it comes out). There aren't too many servers that run EF maps and I think they're fun and a breath of fresh air.

I as well am anxiously awaiting AF.

I'd be willing to give Euro a spin too.

The big thing right now is to figure out if we can get enough people to pony up 30 bucks so we can rent the damn thing for a year.

Hell we could have nights ya know. Thurs - EF Fri - AF Sat - Vanilla Sun - SF if the server would allow us.
