Does anyone make anything that allows you to attach temperature probes directly to the CPU die and other parts for monitoring? I haven't had much luck with the tape they give you or super glue due to thermal variations loosing the bond. I know Arctic Silver makes some expoxes to attach probes, but that would really limit me if I wanted to sell the CPU down the road.

If you are going to attach, I wouldn't attach it directly to the die since you need that mating surface to be in full contact with the heatsink. If not, you run the risk of frying your CPU (speak from experience.).

You cannot attach the probe "directly to the die" ever.

The best you can do, is trim down the probe a little bit, and epoxy it to the side of the IHS (i'm assuming your chip has one). If you go directly on the die, or IHS, you'll A) Crush the diod and B) Fry your chip.

If you use a 30/70 mix of the AS thermal epoxy rather than a 50/50, it should be a nice bond, but still enough to wedge off. Using some alcohol 99%, you'll easily get the probe off.

i've had good luck witht he adhesive backed copper tape supplied with some koolance stuff i bought. but as far as where to get it, i dunno.
