Atom D5xx series question

Question: Would I be able to use an Atom D5xx series cpu to run say, a 6-8 drive nas?

Yup. Lots of people do. Plenty of CPU for simple NAS, WHS, etc. Might not be able to handle ZFS very well.

You might want to look at specialized Atom MBs for this rather than the Intel reference design. Try this one: SuperMicro Atom. It already has 6 SATA-II ports and dual real-Intel NICs. Only real downside is the offbeat form factor (a bit wider than standard mITX).
