was curious:

can i trust a 330 atom processor to capture, record, and display, as it captured, 640x480 video? I will be using an easycap USB

how do you edit the title? 3.1 years and i've never been able to edit my thread title.

also, i'm jumping to a D510...$15 is worth the extra boost :)

I don't see why not. My N450 based netbook will play DivX encoded videos in slightly higher res than that. It will NOT do 720p mkv files though. The D510 might be able to? I did just notice that the D510 won't work with an ION chipset and the integrated GPU doesn't do hardware acceleration of h.264. Might be something to consider. An ION/330 combo may work better for you.

Why do you want to build a dedicate Atom machine for only 640x480 video? Just curious.

While I think ION is a great option, the fact that the cheapest 330/ION on newegg costs $145 and the cheapest D510 costs $80 + $50 for the Broadcom video accelerator = $130.. If you only wanted the ION for it's acceleration ability, going with the D510/Broadcom combo would be cheaper.

It's weird, I swear I saw the Broadcom mini PCI-E card for $22 on ebay last week, but now they're all $50...
EDIT: yes!

Last week had this sold at $21 + 7 shipping, as well as several postings at $28 flat, where did these go?? Why are there only $50 ones now? Last week's prices would be awesome, 80 + 28 = $108!

4x4not, low power machine for a UAV/backpack video based comminication system with recording. I figure i could have dedicated the cores for something. i'm tempted to use an 8400 PCI or a TV tuner card

nothing will be greater than 480p. Your response was most helpful.

Palmboy, thanks again. yeah i went over that idea, but i do not want to DECODE, i want to ENCODE :). Broadcomm's BCM is alright, but at that price, i can get a tv tuner card with a built in mpeg encoder and be done with it. :)

anyways, i got the board, i haven't really had time to play with it since midterms, so, someday soon. It is running netbuntu atm though :).

yes, i was disappointed by the performance over all...until i touched the HS (no F). Thing is perfect in that regard. It will suffice for now lol

thanks guys

I was able to watch 720P movies on my EEE 1000H with CoreAVC codec. But heavy action sequences would go out of sync. ATOM can do everyday tasks, just stay away from Flash :(
