ATITool

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!

It fails to recognize my ATI Rage 128 Pro! Actually. It can't tell what it is, but it can set the clock speed and stuff, which doesn't help me much since the card is useless any way. Or maybe it will.

What is the worst that can happen if you use this tool?

i accidentally put 40000 mhz oc on my 9800 pro -_-... i paniced for about 2 secs before realizing to power off my comp. Everything froze and had major artifacts on windows when i did that. good thing i turned it off in time. rebooted and ati tool was reset and everything ran fine. i personally like rage3d tweak better

LOL at that one. That's why I use the clock safety range in the settings tab and restrict it to speeds that wouldn't immediately kill my card

ATi tool does a good job of overclocking my 9600np from 325/203 to 486/333

what about all these people stating that it lies about some artifacts??

Atitool tells me that I get artifacts at settings that NEVER crash when playing D3 or HL2

Almost all of the data loaded by a GPU is textures or geometry. If that's damaged then you just get artifacts. But a miniscule fraction of the data is control data and if that gets damaged then you can get a crash. If your data corruption is rare, you will get visual artifacts which you probably don't notice and essentially zero crashes. Up the corruption rate a lot and you will get visual artifacts and the occasional crash.

There's no reason for ATITool to lie about the artifacts. It's going to find data corruption that you will rarely notice while actually playing games. ATITool is running the same code independent of the clock rates and yet it only sees data corruption once you kick your clock rates up to a certain level.

it is in the Video Card FAQ

there needs to be a sticky in the ATi section so people can post links as well.

alot of good it does having a link to ATi Tool OUTSIDE the ATi section of the forum.

ATI Tool is nice for overclocking, but it has alot of incompatabilities with applications. I spent days trying to figure out why certain software wouldn't run, and finally nailed it down to ATI Tool. The guy who wrote the thing wouldn't even bother to respond to my emails, after I fixed the damn problem (use regedit and add the appl to the compatibility setting)
