ATI's thoughts on Shader Model 3.0

I do not understand why someone would pay 500 dollars for a 3 year old core with no new tech on it....makes no sence..
oh well there are 2 types of people. the ones that follow.. and the ones that lead the followers....

And I don't understand why some like to play ignorance to there being differences between the r420 an the r300 core. Not to mention the fact that the $500 "3 year old core" probably isn't even going to come close seeing its limits within it's lifetime.

This has gotten out of hand. I own a 9700Pro. It has lasted me over a year now and it still plays well in many games. I have owned NV cards in the past. For many people here we want the best card that will last us the longest, give us the best proformance, so that we don't need to buy another in six months. To me this is simple. No matter what the benchmarks are now or whether new features are being used, one thing is plain and clear. The 6800's have more then the X800s. They offer more features for the the cash. I don't care if SM3.0 isn't being used now, or that the X800s can play just as fast. The point is there will be a time when all games us SM3.0 and I want a card that will take advantage of it. I don't care whether ATi gives it to me or NV. Right now, it happens that the 6800 has more. That is what I'm going to spend my cash on. I want a card that will last me like my 9700Pro. It's plain and simple. Both cards are fast, no one can doubt that, but why would I drop $400 or $500 on a card that doesn't have more advanced tech? Even if SM3.0 isn't all that its lived up to be and ATi's cards run just as fast...why take the chance when I can buy a card that I KNOW will work in the future?

Like I said before...nobody ever won a video card competition by making the card that plays today's games the best but has no forward-looking features...tomorrow's games are built with today's hardware, so if you're not designing for the future...you're screwing yourself over...

I would have to agree with you. Like i said in my last post, i do not understand why someone would pay for 3 year old tech that was put back on the burner....ya ya call me a fanboy for all i care i been with nvidia since day one and thats cause of there FUTURE PROOF TECH....also they have badass drivers. and never once had ONE problem with them. kinda funny that a few of my friends who do have 9800pro's and 9700pro's and what not seem to change drivers to play the game of the week cause one set of drivers is buggy in one game and buggy in the other...sorry i would never buy a card that is 3 years old with no new tech and BAD drivers...Shit for OpenGL and also shit for Multi-Monitor..
makes ya kinda wonder what ATI has been doing for the past 3 years....

This is old as sin. Why was it brought up again? It's a PR presentation, and opinion.
