ATI's SLI brand to be called Multi Rendering

WE MANAGEd TO GET a few extra details about ATI's secret SLI programme. The Canadian based company chose Multi Rendering as the brand name for its marchitecture, to be introduced next year.
We are unsure whether ATI will stick with this name, but we know that ATI still hasn't told most of its partners about it.

Some of the VIP people even outside of ATI knew all along about this project, and ATI certainly told the investor community about its plans. It had to, since Nvidia was very noisy about its SLI technology and investors were raising many questions about ATI's next step. You also have to bear in mind that Nvidia SLI is working and performing and is soon to be shipped.

ATI may change the name in the second quarter of 2005, butfor now this is the name that it is using to tell the people that it wants to tell.

Multi Rendering is rather an ordinary name, so we suspect ATI will do better than that before launch time. µ

Or Buy another 6800 for SLI and enjoy double performance.

Yea but SLI was one of the strong points of the voodoo cards and that was mainstream. Actually GETTING two at the time..well

Maybe we're all laughing at it because ATI has been so negative about SLI in general and now that they're jumping on the bandwagon, especially with a retarded term...it's worth a great laugh.

And the term "multi rendering" is just so vanilla in a world where if it doesn't say "extreme" (a term I have grown to hate these days) then the world won't accept it. SLI has become a widely known and respected term in the industry thanks to 3dfx way back in the day. Of course...3dfx was a nay-sayer on 32bit rendering and had horrible 32bit performance if I recall correctly. And look at where they're at now.

i was just trying to say name wise it could go mainstream (however pathetic it may sound), however buying two graphics cards for a system is certainly not the general public do. it depends how well the NV41 cores do to see if SLI will go mainstream

I know in my case, I didn't know what the heck SLI meant back then. I just thought it was cool that later if could afford it (yea..right) That would be a cool simply hooking up two video cards.

I think two video cards hooked up tech should be called: 2 Kewl

Everyone seems to be missing the point by having a good self-indulgent chuckle about the term 'Multi Rendering', but is it any more useless than 'Scalable Link Interface', or indeed any more impenetrable outside of the hardware enthusiast? I don't think so.

So what you're actually looking at to compare the two equally is:

Radeon X800-MR
NVidia 6800-SLI

If you reduce both to acronym format, is there any reason that 'MR' is unmarketable? What about if they bunged an extra word on the end of the term when they finally came to market it? I dunno, say Turbo off the top off my head, to give it that third letter.

I see all these posts about how ATi is hypocritical about SLI. Yet I have not seen one of NV on the same subject. When 3DFX had SLI, NV attacked 3DFX accusing them of producing inferior video cards, and thus needed two, to compete. Now the shoe is on another foot, and NV is the "creator" and ATi is the copier. ATi has done something similar before, with Maxx. CPU's are going to two cores, I guess they are copying ATi with Maxx technology? Please. "Copying" happens in every field of technology, and every market of buisness.
