I picked up a new XFX Radeon HD 6750, to replace a pair of GeForce 7900GS's in SLI and move into the DX11 era.

Unfortunately, despite the drivers I use, I'm plagued by an atikmdag.sys BSOD at random times and it's beyond old.

Specs:
Gigabyte N650SLI-DS4L
Pentium E2160 @ stock
XFX Radeon HD 6750
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2--800
Seagate 320GB SATA
Western Digital 160GB SATA
Pioneer DVDRW IDE
Asus Silent Square
Corsair HX520
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 & latest updates

Currently, I've tried:
Reinstalling Windows
Updating BIOS (latest is F3)
Cleaning out the old drivers, rebooting and installing new drivers (currently with 11.7, but had decent luck with 11.2's)
Setting the fan speed up to 100%
Disable Aero

No matter what, I continue to run into this issue and for the life of me, I can't get it to stop. If it helps, I have about a minute delay with this card before it posts, and regardless of whether BIOS is set to PCIe1 or PCIe2, I still get the delay, so I'm not sure if this is a defective card or what.

I'm pulling my hair out over this because it crashes not just in games, but doing something simple like browing the internet.

Umm, help?
 
Might be a bad card, especially since you reformatted. RMA it through the place you bought it (since you said you bought it new).
 
Yeah, that's what I'm beginning to think. XFX wants me to check it in another system, so we'll see. Popped one of my 7900GS's back in for now, but it's not been too long. Still, no crashes (crosses fingers.)
 
I have the same random BSoD, but it was more driver related. Cat 11.6 were the most stable driver I've tried, but since 11.7 and 11.8 I get random crashes =(

Tbh I don't think it's hardware related, but doesn't hurt to try it in a different system.
 
I have the same issue when i overclock my cards to far for bitcoin mining. I'm pretty sure your issue is hardware related.
 
I have the same thing, but it mainly occurs when I run dual displays and one of them is turned off or being used by my 360 and when I try to boot the pc without disabling that display on my rig's display settings.
 
Only Nvidia has this problem, ATI don't BSOD you must be faking it. I read that on a forum somewhere.


Seriously though, it's a generic drive death. Try rolling back a driver or rolling forward. It's also possible you've got a bad card or an unstable overclock.
