What is the yellow plug for on the ati x850 used for? I looks like one of the sound cables would fit (type that attaches to cd drives), but i can find nothing in the book to say that is what it is or if it is something else. and if sound why on the vid card?

Cool, thanks for the feedback. Just wish they would have better manuals than the generic "this book works for every video card made by ati" book

Not for sound. That is the VIVO (video-in, video-out) plug.

Wouldn't it be for sound in though?
It's used for VIVO, not video, but sound for the video capture.

has this connector ever been used before? Has anyone seen the cable for it even? Has it ever been connected to anything?

The connector is meant for cases that support front panel composite video in and out. I have only seen one expansion bay box that has that from a company called K-World but I can't say for sure that it has the same connector. There should be a white connector on the card as well. That one is meant for audio.
