Okay today my friend told me about his friend getting a new card and that it was going to be better than the 7800GTX card he is going to get? Here's the link to the card ATI X700 512mb Gddr2 also I have seen nothing other than this website and another one that is selling it, I have found nothing on google nor Ati's website. So what is the deal with this? The only other X700 cards I can find are the 256mb and the 128mb versions.:confused:

I dont think his friend is right, that it is "more powerful" than a 7800GTX 256mb version, but what the heck? Are there any sources I can look at to back me and my friend up, so we can prove him wrong?

Also whats the difference between gddr2 and gddr3, besides the mhz they run at? Also why is there so much little info on the web about this product?

Its not a typo either, just look at the box, clear as day "512mb/gddr2", me and my friends heads are hurting trying to locate info on this and also just to figure out if this was a card that never really made it out in the open, and possibly they just sold what the company had leftover or what. but thanks in advance for the eye-opening results of this mystery ;)

let him buy it

One of my friends wouldnt listen to us when we told him NOT to buy a FX5900SE video card last October....

he ended up replacing it with a 6600GT this summer which he then replaced with a 7800GT that i suggested to him this past month.

people like that will learn their lesson....eventually

The link you gave is for a GeForce 6600 with 512MB of RAM, not a Radeon X700! This might be why you're having trouble finding them...
I don't believe there ever was an X700 with 512 MB of RAM ever made. Only ATI cards with that were some X800s and all of the X1800 XTs...
Either way, doubling the ram on a video card wouldn't give you much of a performance boost - it might let the game run faster if you're playing a game with higher textures (so it doesn't have to go to system RAM) though.

As for a X700 with 512MB of RAM (again, if they exist) - a 6800 would trounce it, never mind a 7800GTX...

If that is so, how come my brothers X700Pro 256meg card is faster than my 6800? is it due to the type and amount of Ram on my 6800? The rest of the system specs are very simliar.

Are they played at the same resolutions/details/AA? The 6800 would beat the X700 Pro in games.

Notice how I said X700 and not X700Pro. An X700Pro is a completely different animal, which I would think would run about the same as a 6800 or perhaps a little slower or faster. MAYBE.

Who gives a crap how much ram it has?? Its a piece of shit X700 lol
It hasnt a prayer in hell against even a 6600GT let alone a 7800GTX

I dont care, because I know that my 7800gtx card would do dances around it, but I'm sick of my friend talking smack about how much better his is going to be and what not, and I just wanted some info on this card that will make him shut up!!!

Then show him this

The X700 is basically a 9700Pro, which is what? 4 +years old?? Its a VERY lower mid range card. 512 megs of ram doesnt mean squat when the core powering the card is weaksauce. Just look at benchmarks and cry. lol the X700 will barely play anything new at anything over 800x600 and forget A/AF. You could give it 10 gigs of ram and it still wouldnt perform.

How dare you insult the 9700Pro line, that card was a beast in its day and still is. A Vanillia X700 doesnt even compare to a 9700Pro. But the X700 was and always will be underpowered. Doubling the ram wont overlook the fact that its core and memory speeds just arent fast enough to process all that data that i can hold.

Direct him to a 512mb 6200 instead. It's cheaper, and it performs the same as the 7800GTX 512mb!

Nope. The 9700Pro has a 256 bit bus, this X700 has a 128 bit bus. My guess is it only has 4 pipelines as well, not the 8 the 9700 Pro has.

the x700pro has 8 pipelines, but that 128bit ram interface really kills its performance. And yes the 6600GT does beat it, but its not a slaughter. X700pro is actualy faster than 9800pro in most newer games.

A 6600gt is faster than a x700pro, let alone a 6800, know your stuff before you start acting stupid

For real, just call your friend a dumba** and be done with it. Prove is pointless when talking to morons. Let him do his own research or let him buy that x700 crap (well, its good for $100). And the reason your x700pro is probably faster than the 6800 is I am betting you bought the cheapest 6800 (6800LE) which is also a piece of sh*t, like the x700 512MB.

Lol, I'll indeed call him a dumbass, and I'm actually going to let him waste his money on this product, then when he trys to run FEAR and the same settings my 7800GTX runs at, Im just going to sit back and watch the look on his face.

Thank you all, I cannot wait to tell my friend. Also one more question, why would they even bother coming out with the POS of cards? when do you all think they were released? was it when the newer 512mb cards (7800, and the x1800) were released you think?

because everyone doesnt use the PC for high end gaming and also they dont have $500+ dollars, mabey your friend isnt the only dumba**.

wow, some people see a lot of video RAM and don't look past that. 512MB on an old core means nothing! 512MB on a 7800GTX makes me drool, however.

Well its not really that the x700 is a bad card.... but its only worth about $100, while the 7800gtx is a $500 card. They are just totally different price points. The 7800gtx offers a lot more performance than most people need. Most poeple are content with 1024x768, high detail, some AF, no AA.

Ok, I am a bit confused here, I've got an eVGA 6800nu that is unlocked. It is supposed to be faster than a stock 6600GT and you are saying that the 6600GT is faster than the X700 Pro.

All I stated was that my brothers X700Pro is faster then my unlocked 6800 since we tested it with BF2 with the exact same settings in the game and mine has much lower framerates on certain maps which makes it hard to play.

Yesterday I played with the settings on my friends new machine, AMD64 dual core 3800+ with a 6800GT, put the video settings to 1280x1024 with everything on high and max AA and it played very good, making me consider upgrading to a used 6800GT.

If you have an unlocked and overclocked 6800nu and it performs worse than a x700pro then there is a problem with your system. The difference between your card and a 6800gt should be hardley anything.

What are the differences between your brothers system and yours for example if hes running a 3500 A64 and 2gigs of memory and say your running a 3200 XP and 1 gig of memory his system will win ecspecially in a game like BF2. Try runnin your cards in the same system and do benchmarks cause if his x700 pro is beating an unlocked 6800 there a problem.

Hold on before everyone goes bashing on the x700 series, I have an x700pro that I got when the 6600gt had just come out and everyone was flying to get it. I got the x700pro 256 for 140 over a year ago. My top 3d03 score was around 8k, and my 3d05 score was around 3.5k. Destroys stock 6600gt's and gets ATI IQ.

Nowadays, its really not a good buy unless you are spending around 120 or less, and if your friend thinks it will beat a 7800gtx, tell him it wont, and that the 512 wont help him at all, and then sit back and let darwin's theory go to work.

Also, battlefield 2 automatically adjusts to your video card, so even if you set settings at a certain level, it will adjust other setting to make sure it runs ok.

Lmao your Friend is L33T, no matter how much ram a darn X700 has its still a crap ass card no matter what, putting 512mb of memory on a X700 is just a waste of money, only noobs and people who no nothing at all will by that card, even if that card has 512mb and a 6600GT has 128mb it won't even perform on par as a 6600GT.

I'm sorry, but beating a card in synthetic benchmarks does not mean better performance in games. In games, the 6600GT DOES beat the X700 Pro by a margain, but not much. Just read the [H] reviews for more comparison between the cards.

His specs are:
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe, P4 3.0ghz Prescott, 2gigs of DDR400, X700Pro 256meg.

My 6800 is unlocked but not overclocked.

your friend is a true dumbass.....

reminds me of one of my friends......"aren't intel and microsoft the same thing.." :p :p
