Alright, so i just built a new PC. AMD 3500+ Venice, DFI LanP. Ultra-d, 2 gigs of DDR400, new WD 80gig SATA drive. All the installs went just great, but anytime I run anything graphiclly intense it crashes out to a VPU recover. Programs include, CS, CS:S, Call of Duty 2, 3Dmark 2001se, 3Dmark 05. also the card seems to be running HOT, for a while it was idling at 66c, but now its idling anywhere from 85c-90c!!! Ive tryed 3 different Drivers, 2 different Mobo drivers. the system is running 2k. I believe that i got a bogus x1800xl =\. anymore ideas?
 
umm make sure the heatsink is attached properly would be one of the first things id check, disable vpu recover in the driver console.
 
turned off the VPU recover, i was getting artifacts in COD 2, and it locked up. =(. This blows.
 
Rma it or simply take the gpu heatsink off and replace some as5 on it
 
85-90C idle is way above average.
Probably a bad heatsink. You could fix it yourself but better to just RMA and get a new one.
