Ati X1800XL unfixable problem?!

im currently running a X1800XL and when i install my drivers and restart it loses monitor signal after the windows XP loading logo. it also does this with different ATI drivers.. ive tryed reformatting, flashing bios, down clocking lol, windows vista home premium...the card works fine without the drivers installed...also, so im forced to play my games on a 8500GT lol on windows XP because the 8500GT does the same thing with windows vista..lol.. so i feel like this is maybe some kind of motherboard chipset problem..ive reformatted about 3or4 times in the past 2 days, im eyes are bloodshot from starring at the monitor trying to resolve this problem for the past couple hours straight...

also my x1800 did work great, until someone gave me the 8500gt, so i popped it in to test it and when i went to switch back to x1800. all the problems occured. :(


i really need some help on this one guys! please please! thanks alot!
 
A couple of long shots for you to try:

1. Have you cleared CMOS?
2. Have you tried a different PSU?
3. Have you tried unofficial ATi drivers, like the Omegas?
 
yea ive cleared the cmos. i havnt tried omega i didnt know they still existed.and for my psu.. im actually not sure..you know, it is a generic 500watt.. thats been pushing 1.5+ years now..im gonna go do some more troubleshooting, i already said ill be giving away a free 8500GT.. to whoever helps me..so we will see..thanks
 
Is the card plugged in to the power supply? How about after reinstall of the drivers (I assume a fresh install of OS) press F8 when booting XP and select VGA mode. Maybe that will help. I have had similar problems with my x1800xt in the past.
 
yea ive tryed booting in vga mode. and ive got the power connectors hooked up. and for trying a different OS ive tryed windows xp sp1/ windows xp sp2/ and windows vista home premium all full reformats. i have not yet tried the omega 7.10 which are the latest. i have dial up and.. well you know what i mean. i have vista on my other HD.. so ill be trying omegas on vista on my XP sp2..but as you all know im still running the 8500GT and well for need for speed pro street it doesnt do to well, nor for gears of war.

also guys keep in mind the 8500GT does the same thing as the x1800xl but only on vista lol

but i could care less about this 8500GT its to slow for old ladies even!:D
