My little bro wants to record him playing Halo 2, and i remembered i had an ati x800xl vivo model, so i could hook them together and record it right?

Yeah although the audio could be an issue if you want to record that as well. Also you'd be better off with some sort of splitter or pass-through so he could play on a TV and you could record on your computer. If you try to use your monitor you end up with about a 1s delay.

The delay is not that bad. Did you really just try to tell us that there is one whole second of delay?

You can record the sound through the line in on your sound card.

You'll need to find the right capture software. There are a number of free options.

Here's a couple:

AVI IO is nice because it seems to do the better job of syncing audio.

Another thing I ran into last time I was playing around was that ATI broke their WDM drivers. I had to go back several months to find ones with decent quality. It's been a while, I don't know if they've fixed it yet. I think I ended up running the cat 6.11s with the wdms from June.

Yes. Doubt it's a full second but it's pretty significant. By the time you process the incoming signal, compress it, sync it, and then stick it on the screen there is definitely a bit of delay there.
