ATI Tools Amp Draw Reading

I'm currently testing my x1900xt for artifacts and o/ced speeds...

And everything is fine right now... except one thing:

ATI Tools says the GPU is drawing 27.3A (at 675/774) - is this correct? I'm running the GPU on a 18A rail, so if 27.3A was really going through, I think the computer would shut off right now...
 
mine says 30amp. obviously not possible as it would shut down (or worse)

I dont know of an accurate program eithor, maybe rivatuner? (i think it only does temps)
 
If you guys are running multi-rail PSU's it's possible that the 12v rail for the PSU is "borrowing" some amperage from the other rail, they're not totally isolated.
 
Ok, I've been told that those reading are incorrect.

Benchmarks said that this card uses 120V on 3D load (stock settings, which is 10amps on the 12V rail) - I'm not sure how much more it uses when overclocked, but I doubt it would go above 13/14A.
 
It's using 27 amps yes, but not from the 12V rail. Remember its converting 12V to whatever you have your GPU core running at. For stock it would be 27AX1.4V=37.8 watts however I think its the total amperage its drawing and 38 watts seems awefully low for a GPU that supposedly sux a lot of power. Someone shoot am email to ATI and ask them wtf that amperage means!
 
Those wattage numbers are for the core only, and don't take into count the whole card, ie memory, Vregs, pcb etc.

You're assuming 100% efficiency in your equation, and it's no where close to 100%. It's going to need more than 10 amps to drive that card, especially when OC'd. My coworkers 1900XTX was flaking out on him with a 500 Watt Fortran. He called ATI and the tech spec'd his PSU (dual rail) and it could only swing 15V on the 12V leg. He got a beefier PSU (12V side), and hasn't had a lick of problems. I'm a recent Nvidia convert, and I have to say that these cards pull some serious current.
 
I haven't had any problems yet, everything has been running fine, I clock my card at 662/765.

I was just wondering what exactly the ampage reading was in AT Tool (or more like how the program comes up with it), but using the VGPU, that would make more sense. 27.3A x 1.4 + w/e other power consumption is not recorded.

And 15V on a 12V rail? What? If you meant amps, well I've got 18A running off the 12V rail running to the GPU and HD... so I should be good for atleast 13A under load. (Assuming at slightly over 70% efficiency)
 
Weird, I just noticed this same this and came here to ask about it and there it is, right at the top of the thread list. ATI Tool tells me that my X1800XT is drawing 32.7A (or 392W).
