ATI Tool Question(need help)

Hey guys, first of all happy new years again!
Now onto my question,i overclocked my radeon 9700np to 310/290 and i have some questions like
1.Do you think i could overclock some more without gettin an extra coolin and just keep the regular one....
2.Is my card gettin damaged when i overclock only for playing games and then turning it back into default core and mem speeds?
3.i have noticed that after rebooting the pc my overclock settings is default always....how could i keep my overclocked settings even after rebooting the pc.

Try a program called Rage3d. Google it. As for your 9700 pro are you sure thats what your running? I have my 9600 pro at 455/318 and it's 100% stable. Seems like low numbers for a 9700.

its a non-pro 9700 though, clock speeds are alot lower

my 9600 pro came stock 400/400 :D
 
Are you willing to flash the BIOS on your 9700np?

Flash it with the BIOS from a 9700 Pro and it will overclock better. The current BIOS has a one hexadecimal difference that limits overclocking on the card. Just by switching the BIOS some people were able to overclock a lot further.

You can try one of the BIOS's from www.omegadrivers.net. When I did research on this I found a really good thread on some forum where people were figuring this BIOS thing out and linked to some modded BIOS's, but I lost the link.

edit: Oh, and if it literally won't overclock at all (or even underclock) thats because its locked. Flashing to pro fixes this I think but if you don't want to do that install the Omega drivers. That will allow overclocking as well.

i'm having the same card as yours... the problem is that during that time ATI are not willing to let their beloved customers to Oc their cards.. as during that time lots of OCs done with R9500np and OCed it to R9700p specs... later they come out with R9500p and R9700np with locked bios..

i overcomed the problem with flashing my bios with tweaked/overclocked core and mem speed bios.

see my spec below.. btw, i'm still using the stock heatsink. my card is Powercolor Radeon 9700np with ATI reference board.
 
it depends on what card you have,i have a sapphire 9700 np and they are unlocked,check the card id no.if its x45 its got the locked bios if like mine it says x449700 pro oc away. the core oc's well to 350mhz with stock cooling but the memory chips are different than the 9700 pros mine goes to 305 ish but im gonna try some ram sinks on them cos they do feel hot to the touch.
i have never flashed a video card bios before but i guess you should get a copy of your old bios just in case and then find the right 9700 pro bios and put it onto floppy i think there is a ati bios flashing tool available,a spare pci vid card may be a good idea if all goes pear shaped and you need to redo everything,good luck!!
oh yeah when i had this card on a different mobo with a p42.2 instead of my 3000+a8v deluxe
i could not get a decent oc at all now it flys.

anyway, you need to use a program called atiflash. then you need to find the bios you need. you can edit the bios with a program called radedit. if not you can just flash it with 9700pro bios. but caution! you'll need to know what type of memory you have on the VGA. because the 9700pro is using 2.8ns samsung rams, but 9700np is only using 3.3ns infineon rams..

i used to have a site with all the bios... but you can find in google.
