I just downloaded this and I'm getting artifacts every 5 seconds at stock speed with mid 50s temps !

Is this a bug or is my card in need of rma ?

I can not get it stable on my system either.

if i go to 3d view in ati tool it artificats all over the place, but if i go to scan for artifacts it gets none 0.0 also if i try to OC with ATI tool it currupts my display

The weird thing is the release notes say this problem was fixed.

I haven't used ATi Tool since I upgraded my card a few months ago.

At 600/600 on my x800GTO^2 I get quite a few artifacts in ATI Tool.. but in games I don't notice it, so I consider it stable.

It claims my 9800 has tons as welll.. I have never noticed a single artifact in game though and I am still using stock cooling. ;)

I'd be carefull about what you see and not see, some of the things happening in the background are subtle. I like the old thought when you see something happening with your game, if your doing o/c in small increments, back it off by 10 and you should be safe.

I notice Moire and Shimmering like mad, when I had my 6600GT, I notice any artifacting, I have that attention to detail vision.

First, just to be 100% clear, you people who get errors when you shouldn't aren't using temporal anti-aliasing, right? I know, ATITool pops up a warning, but, some people just click ok without reading (such as my whole family.) )-: Anyway, just checking. Could be a bug in ATITool of course.

And Borgschulze, assuming you're talking about a different version of ATITool, with temporal aa off, if you get errors in ATITool but don't see anything funny in games, bear in mind that ATITool pushes your card VERY hard (I get higher temperatures in ATITool than I do in any gaming.) Any errors it detects ARE REAL ERRORS. In gaming, you may not see them if the card doesn't get pushed hard enough, but, remember, there can be subtle things you don't always see. For example, on my old Radeon 9600 Pro a long time ago, when I had pushed things a little too far without realizing, I didn't notice anything funny. Eventually I was looking at a scene without moving and realized there was a slight "noise" kind of like a very very subtle static effect (very subtle as we're talking the same color and very close to the same shade as the places I saw it, which leads me to believe it was a shader problem.) Anyway, that said, even if you don't see anything at all, there's always that tiny possibility some subtle thing is going on that isn't obvious and all the while you may just be causing damage to your card. My rule of thumb is that if I see an error at all, it's time to go down a bit, because I like my hardware to last. You never know when you might use old hardware (just look at my signature -- that system makes a great HTPC with DVD playback and all.)

Funny because Quake 4 went mad today Heh..

The whole server started lagging and I got some massive artifacts, everyone was freaking.. then it stopped.. wierd.

Beta 10 and 11 still have problems with the artifact scanning. Author is aware of the issues...

Borgschulze, just bear in mind that if you push things too hard for too long, you can damage the chip and end up having either less overclock, or, worse, in some rare cases, even having to underclock for stability. Usually just the loss of overclockability is all that happens without voltmodding to REALLY mess things up though.

BTW, I just upgraded my beta 8 to beta 11. The artifact detection and find max clock buttons both work about the same, though I noticed the memory worked a little better. Beta 8 let the memory go up a bit, started getting artifacts, then ended up going down and stopping at 591.55 (yes, I get 1.55 oc on my memory, sad isn't it?) Beta 11 either didn't go up past that at all or jumped back down so quickly I wasn't looking when it happened because I noticed it seemed to just stop at 591.55, exactly the same clock that beta 8 decided was the max. I also ran the max core, but, with storms threatening outside, I decided to shutdown my main system before it got higher than 566 or so. Looks like it works on some systems and not others.

I'm kind of wondering if the artifacts are specific to the newer ATI cards? Eg X1000+, or maybe even specifically the X1800? Hmm, any chance that adaptive AA or something like that gets switched on by default in the drivers for them maybe? In theory, even the X1000 is powerful enough that you could switch adaptive on for it and still max out settings in all games currently out right now. At least, I think so. (No X1000 to test this on.) If ATI arrived to this conclusion as well, they might choose to enable that by default for better image quality?

I only run the card at 600/600 when I play games, otherwise it's clocked at 400/490, the default for an x800GTO^2.

It doesnt work correctly for the x1800x series of cards. It will set voltages correctly however, which is basically all I use it for.

I check for artifacts by running 3dmark05...not as fast but if its going to artifact I can usually tell right away...so I just cancle the benchmark, readjust my settings and try again.
