ATi released x900 ! Err...??

Well.. It says that the cards will have up to 512Mb ram... Chip 560MHz, memory 600MHz
256Mb minimum on the card [i.e. no 128mb versions]

They also say they expect it to cost about 500 Euros which, under quick math for me means ~650-660 us dollars.

the x850xt-pe is 540mhz, and 590 mhz (1.18ghz) memory.

So..

the x900 "base edition" is 560/600 (1.2 ghz), i.e. arguably making it theoretically faster than the x850xt-pe

Man, I love being multi-lingual.

They also talk about the r5xx chip, coming out "1st quarter 2005" that will have 512MB GDDR-4 ram, with 1.2 Ghz speed [ddr'd to 2.4GHZ] [HIGHLY DOUBTFUL] 90nm, pixel shader 3, 32 bit precision. They even say that they got it from an unofficial site [it seems as if they are trying to imply that an ati official "unofficially" stated these specifications.
 
well the R520 cores have been in devolopement for awhile, working close with microsoft because this is the core to go into the xbox2(which is supposed to be released holiday season this year)
 
Look at the dates of that info--that can't be anything more than a guess. You think ATi knew this time last year what clocks it was gonna sell the R420 at? 520/1120 sound like peculiar clocks to have known way in advance (I'm sure they had a goal of some nice numbers, like in this writeup). The more important info is the number of pipes and whether it will support AMR.

You make a very common mistake.... You *must* be american.

The majority of the rest of the world, places such as europe, asia, south america, africa.. do not use the naming/numbering conventions for dates that we do, here, in the usa.

It's not

"Month, Day, Year.

It's Day, Month, Year.

[which, if you think about it, makes more sense! -- Days change the most, are the "smallest" denominator..weeks are higher, then months, then years, decades, centuries..

So, when you see 02.11.2004 or 10.11.2004 They are saying

"November 2nd, 2004" [2nd day, 11th month, 2004 year] or November 10th, 2004 [10th day, 11th month, 2004 year]


Also.. it says 560/1200 not 520/1120

And 1st quarter 2005 is NOW.. so, that's not exactly 1 year.. at MOST you are talking 3 months from the date of the article [ok.. 3 months, 28 days or 3 months, 20 days]

Nov 10th and 2nd, 2004 compared to July '05 (when I think R520 will actually come out, especially after the presumed delays of R420) is quite some time. Not a year, duh, but I exagerate. ;)

520/1120 are the X800XTpe's clocks!! Do you think they predicted those exact clocks even 3 months before the chip came out? Heck no. They probably had ranges they wanted (500-550 and 1050-1200, I imagine) and maybe those leaked to the press ahead of time, but the exact clocks weren't known till a week before NDA was up. What this has to do with 560/1200 is that those are probably ballpark figures (at best). I doubt they could know what clocks it will come out at as it didn't even tape out too long ago. How you can take what they're saying for granted is beyond me. They have little other pertinant info (yes, GDDR4--ATi said that though....they have pipe info that makes little sense as ATi slides have already said that R520 has the capability for many more [and why would ATi release another SLIGHTLY faster card?!]).

AMR is ATi Multi Rendering, much like SLI just with any two cards and no bridge needed.

I see no possible way that these guys are doing anything more than speculating.

Actually I think it is the R500 that is going in the Xbox2 which will be called the R600 on the desktop.

Let's not leave out the X700 mobility lol. Hmmm maybe that's why we havent seen many X700 on the shelves... cause ATI was usin them all for the mobilities and then supplying all the OEMs with them. (Asus, Toshiba, and a butt load of other laptop makers are using them.)

Isn't the x700 mobility different from the desktop x700? At least, I know the 9700 and 9800 mobilities were pretty much different chips from their desktop "counterparts."

No telling what it's based off until ATi sez. 9700m was based off the 9600xt, 9800m was based off the x800se, x800m was based off x800pro. There is some logic behind x700m being based off x700d, but I would seriously doubt that's where all the x700xts have gone, as somebody else suggested.
