ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 graphics?

ok today i'm going down to best buy to pick up this system: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...oductCategoryId=cat01173&id=pcmprd34800050002 and i'm big on gaming, the video card i got now is a 8500LE 128mb and looks like it runs everything pretty damn good. cept for UT2K3, i've encountered some errors with that. but anyways, i just want to know is the xpress 200 any good? i know its intergrated.

IIRC, the radeon express 200 is based on the ati x300, which was based on the 9600 chip. So, decent for integrated, but not top end. I think it'd perform like a 5750 pci-e card.

So in benches look at the x300, the 9600, and the 5750 and you'll get an idea of where it's at.

The x300 performs well below the level of a 9600, the x600 is based on the 9600 card. So you take a sub peforming GPU then add system memory sharing and you get basically squat for any kind of performance in games. The graphics package in that machine is aimed towards the internet surfer not a gamer.
 
I have a MSI Xpress200 board, it's definately not a 9600 contender. It was a step up from my 9200se and so should be about the same as your 8500LE.

When looking at the reviews, be aware that there are several different versions on X200 graphics. The boards with a dedicated frame buffer (16MB or so) have better performance than those that use system memory entirely (like my MSI board.) Some of the early benchmarks of the chipset used these better boards but AFAIK none of the shipping boards do. Also manufacturers can choose different frequencies for the X200 chipset - my MSI has a default of 200mhz but can be overclocked in the bios to 350.

You will also get a good boost by using dual channel memory (2 sticks rather than 1) but I can't tell from the system specs what configuration that machine has.

At least it has a pci-e slot so you could throw in a cheap ($70) 6600 refurb from newegg if you're not happy with stock performance.
 
Just as a heads up, this card is slower than a Radeon8500. We have this computer at work, and since it tried to market itself as a 'gaming machine' :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: I dusted off some ATi Radeon8500 demos and it ran them like crap. I tried the Rachel, Nature, and Amobea demo and it was pitiful. It's crap, total crap.
