Maybe I just feel like starting a war. Title says it all...

To be honest I feel more pulled towards ATI, possibly because most everyone I know says Ati radeon cards are much more powerful.

Thoughts?

both are great right now
I was gonna get a GTX260 for $240 AR but i got a 4870 for $200 instead either way :D

Where'd you get the 4870 for $200? I've been looking around and it seems prices on those have been creeping up recently back toward $300 (which makes sense given its performance)

Right now, the old 260 and the 4870 are neck and neck, the new 260 will be slightly faster than the 4870. As you go up from there you've got the 280 and the 4870x2 which are priced/preformance premiumed from the 260/4870. Really it comes down to how much you want to spend. There isn't a "clear winner". Single GPU = Nvidia, Single Card = ATI, Maximum preformance/multicard = Nvidia.

The long and short is this, there are no loosers. It's not like one is selling a honda accord and pricing it at 90,000$ and the other is selling a ZR-1 for 90,000. Price/preformance wise, you've never been able to get so much horsepower for so little $$$.

The XFX GTX 280 XXX deal on Tigerdirect is pretty good deal. I got one.

There's only one ATI card that is "much more powerful" and thats the HD 4870 X2. And you need a system to match to make use of it. The HD4850/9800 GTX+ are about equal and GTX260 Core 216/HD 4870 are about equal. Give and take depending on the game. The GTX 280 is kind of sitting on its own between the last pair and the X2. Go with your budget and whichever you feel is best for you. You really can't go wrong with any of them.
