ATI Radeon HD 3950 at Computex?

Maybe it will go up against the 9600GT and 8800GT and do a bit better than the 3870.

Still there is no point. It will only create confusion, which AMD DOES not want. The 4850 is aimed towards defeating the 9600 GT/8800 GT. If their aiming this at the 8800 GS, what they would do is call it a 4830 perhaps. Any there is a possibility a 4670 may rival the 3800 series in performance as well.

Well that remains to be seen if the 4850 is actually aimed at the 9600GT/8800GT

If the 3950 is the revision A12 of the RV670 or a cut-down RV770, it certainly wouldn't be numbered there unless it performed better than the 3870 it seems. If anything, a 3950 would compete against the 8800GT and put the 4850 above the 8800GT by a good enough margin to be a new generation PRO card.

I'm having trouble keeping track of all the rumors, but I thought the 4850 was supposed to be a good bit faster than the 8800GT, 8800GTS and 9800GT like 10%+.

On the other hand, the Hexus writer says this slide is a "placeholder" so it may not even be a real product, but cover for something else like the 4870 or another unannounced card.

If rumors of performance and specs are true, the HD 4850 will perform between the 8800 GT and 8800 GTS 512, maybe catching the 9800 GTX in a few games, while the HD 4870 should be similar in performance to a HD 3870 X2. Two HD 4850/4870 in Crossfire should be a match or slightly faster than a single 9800 GX2.

Whats the 9800GTX score in Vantage Performance test? Or other cards for that matter. 4850 tested by VR-Zone at computex put it at P64xx (9600GT and 3850 are at P40xx or so) for comparison... so that should be a good point to start looking at.

Not really. 3D Mark or Vantage scores are no indication of real performance. The HD 3870 beats the 9600 GT in most 3D Mark tests, yet can only match or lose against it, in most gaming scenarios.

At this point, we really need gaming benchmarks from credible sources to evaluate real performance.

Of course, but it's a good theoretical standpoint to look at, at least across generations, so it's likely roughly 50% faster than the RV670PRO - from there, you can figure out where it likely performs against the other cards you mentioned
