Until i get back from vacation in two weeks, i wont have the money to get a new video card, so im stuck with my 9700..I just had a quick question about it..

Does that card have problems overheating?? If the card over heats, will it cause "noticeable" graphical issues?? Im having some issues on BF2, and i cant for the life of me figure out what it is..It even does this with everything on low..Its hard to explain, but on certain maps in certain spots, after about an hour of gameplay, the texture actually flashes at me, like square of rectangular sections of the ground are flashing..sometimes they flash black, sometimes they flash w/ the color of the ground..its the weirdest thing in the world..ive tried everything, but it still does this..someone said that it could be my card just cant handle the game after so much gameplay, or its overheating..

anyone have any suggestions??

If the card is overheating, you need to RMA it or upgrade the cooling. In normal circumstances, it shouldn't be overheating.

to be honest, I don't think it's overheating (unless, of course you have no case fans at all), as far as I know, the card's cooler and fan were specifically designed to keep the card cool under most circumstances.

my first thought would be a driver issue (which can be resolved, in most cases, by installing the latest graphical driver), or an issue with the game itself, which you should be able to resolve by installing the latest patch for that game.

good luck!

I have a 9700pro, the stock cooler on it SUCKS badly. Get an ATI Silencer along with OCZ BGA Copper ramsinks since the DDR1 memory gets fucking hot also.

well i've had multiple issues with my 9700Pro... albeit it's a great card but here are some things i've done successfully to get around artifacting and crashing in games

1) the HSF on this card does an ample job of keeping things cool, i did have a flaky connector going to the fan tho; causing it to sputter and sometimes turn off completely. It didn't fry the card but it certainly couldn't handle a 3d game in this shape. Using a different fan adapter plug solved it. So basically im saying you should make sure your fan's spinning.. no brainer ;)

2) Power supply, i actually had to swap out my old Enermax PSU for a higher wattage modal. On a seperate "3d graphics anomoly problem" this fix solved it hands down. Infact the whole computer system worked like it just got a new set of lungs after the upgrade.

3) I had this issue a third time, after banging my head against the wall i figured out the brand new Delta Fan i put on my HSF was sucking too much juice out via my motherboards CPU header. By using a molex adapter to power my CPU fan, my graphics card was rendering 3d games properly again.

so yeah.. it could probably be anything, these fixes are all posted out of experience.
