Just spotted a Radeon 5570 appear on one of my suppliers web pages. Not many details yet just this.

Sapphire Sapphire Radeon HD5570 1GB GDDR3 PCI-E HDMI / DVI / VGA

RRP over here in NZ is $199

Also a couple of weeks ago the 5470 and 5830 showed on this site too, unfortunately I wasnt quick enough to grab the info off then.

That is interesting. 5770's have DDR5.

I guess it makes sense to use DDR3 on a cheaper gpu.

it does from what I understand, but I thought that it was the 5400 series that was going to be using GDDR3 the gpu can't process that much info at a time and the extra cost of the GDDR5 outweighs the cost saving of the smaller bus it permits after a point (I think I read somewhere that going from 128 to 64 was the last point that happened, need to see if I can find that again)

edit, looks like I am off base here, this is guru of 3d saying 128bit GDDR3
http://www.guru3d.com/news/ati-radeon-hd-5570-pixelized/

but here is tweaktown saying its GDDR5 http://www.tweaktown.com/news/13986/amd_hd_5450_hd_5550_and_hd_5570_not_far_away/index.html

That RRP seems to be disproportionately high. Heck, you can get a 4870 for $220, and a GTS250 for $170.

thats NZ prices.

Also the 5470 has shown up again so heres the info on that.

Sapphire Radeon HD5450 512MB DDR2 PCI-E HDMI / DVI / VGA w/LP bracket NZ RRP $99
Sapphire Radeon HD5450 1GB DDR3 PCI-E HDMI / DVI / VGA w/LP bracket NZ RRP $149

these will probably sell quite a bit cheaper than RRP over here though.

indeed you can source those bits for low prices. My apologies the supplier I deal with has stopped selling those so I have no idea on current retail pricing on them.

All these video cards are turds. Anything less than the 5800 series is good for nothing and pointless for DX11.

I'm still having trouble understanding why AMD does this aside from getting rid of trash wafers.

Sure thing:

Admittedly, they're from Palit and Powercolor, respectively, but that doesn't detract from the fact that they're a GTS250 and 4870.

Because not everyone needs to play games at the maximum settings, and not everyone can afford it?

I can tell that you will have a very drab and sorry career here at the [H]

All they end up with is people breaking their stuff in a nerd rage because their shiny new DX11 video card can't run what they bought it for.
You honestly believe that? Most of the non-techies I know think that a CPU is magic. They think that techies use some voodoo spells to make wireless networking work. If someone in the know tells them after purchase that they have gotten what they paid for (well, in this case, less than what they paid for) then they'll take it and accept it because they can't see it working out any other way.

HTPC's. This is a media center card. And for this application it's perfect and the reason i'm looking at it.
