I believe the NDA doesn't expire until the 14th.

I've heard NDA expires tomorrow (the second) but the products won't be released until the 14th... so it will be more like a preview, and then a hard product launch.

We already know product specs. This is the most disappointing launch I can remember since the 6800 GT / X800 days.
Yea it is, amd shouldn't had bought ati, big mistake. ATI is better off by themselves.
we don't know shit about the spec's, if you have a paper confirming anything about the core and aren't under NDA please share, because right now only people under NDA know the official spec's
the 6800GT and X800's weren't a lame launch either, you could get X800pro's on launch day same with the 6800's, the X800XT PE's were hard to find (who didn't want one?) and the 6800's had crappy launch drivers that were fixed a week later, just about typical of every launch cycle
Why because R600 is late?
For AMD/ATI the DX9 line and especialy the OEM sales are great.
The Hit is in the Retail high-end. Low volume market. screwing that up has not much influence how your doing it economical. It's more a prestege thing. Now with nV mid and low DX10 out the retail hit is bigger. But not a problem if ATI respond in monthly time.
How ever AMD is lookin into the future. We have already had SngleCore and Dualcore is mainstream Quadcore is introduce and AMD follows with there True Quadcore. And we go to 8 and beyond.
At some point you have such large number like 64, that it make more sense to put specialised Cores on the thing. Like GPU.so instead of 64 you get 32+16 CPU/GPU cores
iNTel is already into budged and integreated GPU so for them it's a nobrainer. Where AMD must merge with a GPU compony to get GPU R&D with it. Also bring it for AMD GPU intergreated chipset to have a full chipset solution in the OEM system building market but also mobile market. this is a very strong feature. The can now delever a full package like Centrino in the near future.
The merge is better for the longrun but the bleed heavy for that now. Where both devisions are in a down period.
Also next Designd GPU get also the use of CPU produktion tech and design.
I agree with your post, AMD didn't merge with ATI for the R600, its other possible technologies and adaptation they were looking for with their aquisition

, are you saying the next gen GPU's (G90/R700) are getting functions currently only available on CPU's? I don't really see the point in this unless the CPU is being very bottle necked and is able to ship some of its overhead over to the GPU for load balancing

Kyle posted some stuff in his reacent article which suggested that R700 would benefit from Barcelonas splendid power saving methods etc. The article is on front page, state of silicon union.

DT's "benches" have been fairly thoroughly discredited (by a bunch of guys still under NDA). Chill out a bit dude, we will know when we know

NDA means Non-Disclosure Agreement,
which binds (or should bind) people to not reveal relevant information of an upcoming product, before its actual release date.
NDA for R600 seems to be kept, until May 14th, which was the initial rumor anyway.

Basically its a contract stating you wont talk about what whatever party doesnt want you to talk about. For example, its incredibly common in things like video game beta tests.
Its supposed to retail for around $400 apparently.

Shrug. I'm going to wait for benchmarks. My guesses is that with 512bit bus width it should be able to run AA/AF a little better.
As for who will do better in DX10, no one really knows yet. Theres no real DX10 implemented games out yet.
according to the sparce information we actually do know about the cards at this point it would seem the R600 is a bit more prepared to run DX10 gaming while the G80 will probably outperform it in DX9 gaming all around
