New Rev is A1.2 and it works with over 800MHz :eek:
Vcore is lower than 1,2v
R600 uses GDDR3 but has a bigger bandwidth than G80 = 512Bit :recent japanese resources
Shorter than 8800GTX
Core to be smaller than G80 yet more transistors. Nothing about dual-core as the Inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/) reported.
 
Save up for the R600? We're always saving up for graphics cards, its never ending. No matter what comes out. :p

R600 sounds wonderful. But the proof is in the pudding. No matter whats faster, I love competetion :D
 
according to some information i read on nvnews, Ati apparently canned the R600 UFO which used GDDR3 and opted to use GDDR4 only for the R600 pele

graphics cards should not be allowed to be launched so close to tax refund time. it makes the temptation so much harder to resist damnit.

Some kind of exotic memory power supply costs $3 ? More than the power of an entire geforce 79xx ?


800mhz clock speed and 512bit memory sounds good.
 
80nm process as opposed to 90nm. If this rumour is valid, I'd figure that transistor count couldn't be much higher than 730-740 million, and that might be a stretch. But, you know, 700+ million transistors. Jiminy Cricket.

I wonder how things are arranged. Is 800MHz the global clock speed, or do the SPs operate at a higher frequency?
 
Smaller die but more transisters due to the 80nm vs 90nm on the G80, I assume...
 
800MHz core, 512-bit bus, and an 80nm process? Sounds great, but I forsee VERY low initial yields and very HIGH initial prices...X800XTPE anyone?

Unless it can render at higher than 2400x600 then i am not interested. This is a serious design shortcoming in their current cards and NEEDS to be fixed with r600.
 
I think the amount of people who own a screen capable of displaying higher than approx 2000x1500 AND want to play games at that res are so few as to be completely insignificant right now.

R600 is sounding like a very special chip, can't wait to see more

ATI releases R600 XT/XTX, What is your point? One is better for a little while then another, Instead of becoming Fans just buy what is best at the time in your price range.
 
Im very excited for the potential this chip will bring.

While I've got a G80, and won't probably ever need to upgrade it (until I go Quad) due to my 20" gaming monitor...

I'd love to see nvidia get a run for it's money.

ATI's done the same to Nvidia. It's called competition. Realistically, so close to the generation's launch, I doubt we'll see much more than a new driver revision to squeeze some more performance out of the 8800GTX. If the half the rumors are true the R600 should be slightly faster than the G80. What Nvidia might do, though, is launch their DX 10 midrange line up. That's always more important than the high end and is something ATI always seems to have trouble with even when they have the best high end card.
 
ATI still manages the upper mid range, but ATI really needs to get hot on the lower end. I'll be interested to see what their --600 range offering is like.

ATI releases R600... Nvidia bolts two 8800GTS' together just like last generation... and fan boys praise it as a technological masterpiece.

I own an 8800GTX and am a big fan of it. However I hope that Nvidia sticks with 1gpu/pcb solutions. If I wanted SLI, I'd do it myself.

God dammit, really wanted R600 soon so I can pull the trigger on my GPU upgrade, looks like nvidia may keep my money again

ATi has attempted to create good working versions of the R600 a number of times but, for various reasons, has needed to re-spin the GPU. The company is now up to spin A13.... With A11, as we understand it, the issue was very, very simple. Someone forgot to connect the pins that let the GPU communicate with the outside world.

It would be very disappointing if ATI releases R600 at CeBit (end of March). I am looking forward to upgrade my video card and NVIDIA has a very tempting solution. Another X1800 launch mess?

I can wait a little longer but, I am looking to upgrade soon and with the possibility of a march launch and the potential for a paper launch, I may get a G80 or its refresh.

I am disappointed, was really hoping for a little GPU competition before my xmas money runs out.

Hopefully ATI is BS'ing and will suprise us with a beast of a gpu (like nvidia) and release it soon. Wishful thinking i know, but that would surely put pressure on nvidia to really make its refresh kick
