I was creeping through the ATI control panel and saw an over drive option and enabled it for my 9800XT 256 card. Just wondering how much of a difference this made for my system?
I did not notice any difference in CS:S but that is essentially all I play.
I noticed it bumped up the GPU speed but have no idea if its worth anything?

Just looking for feedback.
 
probably not much. I have overdrive enabled on my 9600XT just because overclocking a 4-pipeline card is a waste of time (imo) and I'm not in the mood to needlessly void a 3 year warranty. Frankly, I notice no difference between having a fillrate of 2.0 gigapixels/sec and 2.108 gigapixels/sec.

Being an 8-pipe card, on the other hand, you might notice a bit more difference with the 9800XT, but I doubt it will yield many noticeable improvements either.

How many Mhz does Overdrive overclock your 9800XT anyways?

I never saw any noticeable gamplay improvements using it with my 9800XT.....and it does next to nothing for my X800XT-PE's clock rates even with watercooling and a 40C max load temp.
 
Overdrive is essentially very safe overclocking. It senses what temperature your card is at and adjusts the core clock speed as the temperature changes. Personally, I would just use a manual overclocking tool to overclock as overdrive hardly pushes your card at all. It doesn't even overclock the RAM, so you may see a 1-3 FPS difference, if even that.

I think it bumps up the core on my XT-PE by about 10Mhz at the absolute MOST......and btw, there is a new version of Overdrive coming with/for the X850 and later cards (not backwards compatible with older cards) that is more along the lines of coolbits, allowing 2d and 3d overclocks and a lot more flexibility/user input.
