ATI Overdrive?

I was browsing through the advanced tabs in my displays, and I noticed the option to enable overdrive on my 128mb 9600XT. With the onset of HL2, I want to squeeze every bit of performance from my machine, so will enabling this help? What does it do and does enabling it have a chance of screwing up my card?
 
Overdrive automatically overclocks your core a small amount if the card's temperature is beneath a certain threshold. In general, it does not yield a great deal of extra performance, although it is completely safe (that's the whole point of it). You'd be better off with careful, manual overclocking.
 
For manual overclocking use ATI tool 0.0.22. You should be able to overclock your card a bit higher than overdrive will.
 
lol u can use overdrive but it overclock your card by like 6mhz :) doesnt really make a difference just use something like ATi Tool or powerstrip
 
ATI tool is great. It finds slowly OCs your core and mem until it either gets too hot, finds anomolys(?) or your graphics driver resets. All in all a great tool if you want to OC your ATI card
 
Riva tuner is good also for overclocking both ATI and Nvidia cards... I think it's better then the ATI tool...

no, ati tool is better, it looks for artifects and riva tuner doesnt... therfore if your card got too hot, or artifected you wouldnt know
 
I use ATI Tool to help find the clocks, but RivaTuner to use them. :D
 
Isn't this risky? Wasn't there a case a while ago where entire batches of cards were RMAed coz of white pixels when something on the video card got fried after the users used overdrive?
