This little program works perfectly....I can change the 2D/3D clocks through the driver without having to run anything else in the background...Is there a way such as a command line switch to save the overclock settings so they are restored during bootup?
 
How are you testing the OC settings for artifacting and such?

Also- can you change the voltage settings? What is your GPU?
 
It works alright - I find that the latest beta of "ATI Tool" works just as well, though, and it has a built-in artifact test util and can set clocks at Windows startup.
 
It's an X1900XT....I've already been through testing with voltages and artifacting and such, I'm just using the same settings I used with Overdrive and ATI Tool....I just like ATI Overclocker best because it's so small and simple.....ATI Tool can overclock and set clocks at startup, but I don't like how it either assigns one setting for both 2d/3d, or I have to leave it running in the background to change clocks on 3D detection (still better than CCC of course).....ATI Overclocker actually changes the normal 2D/3D settings that the card would be doing even if no other program was present. That's what I like about it - you set the separate 2D and 3D clocks and it exits, nice and clean....it would be perfect if it wasn't for the fact that I'd have to run it manually every time I reboot the comp. That's why I'm wondering if there's any command line switches or something that I could use and put it in startup.
 
AFAIK the ATI overclock tool loosens the memory timings, so you may get higher memory overclocks with it but ATI tool will give you better real world results (benchmarks and FPS) for a lower mem overclock.
 
True, ATI Tool would be better to use for OCing, but I don't want it running in the background, and I would have to if I didn't want to lose the ability to switch 2D/3D clocks. What I wanted was something that changes the existing 2D/3D clocks of the card and then exits, which is what the ATI Overclocker does. I was hoping that someone knows a command line switch for a shortcut or another way for it to run autmotically at startup, set the clocks, and then end. The way it is now, I'd have to manually load ATI Overclocker every time I boot the comp, which kinda defeats the purpose, since then I might as well just bring up ATI Tool instead. Remember, the key difference for me here is the "set it and forget it" nature of ATI Overclocker, and I can't really do that if there's no way for it to load itself.

Right now my options are to use CCC Overdrive (ugh), ATI Tool (rather not, since I'd have to keep it running always since I want it to switch 2D/3D clocks), or just wait for ATI Tray Tools to come out with an update that works with the X1900XT and overclock with that. In the meantime, I've flashed it to XTX and it's enough OC for now that I don't have to run anything, so I'm just gunna keep it like that for now :p
 
I'm using the ATi Overdrive overclocker in the Catalyst Control Center and have my x1800XL clocked to 575/550 (stock is 500/500).

After I set it, it's there until I manually change it. I have the "preserve settings at logon" checked.

I haven't messed with many other overclocking utilities though, but what you're wanting is possible with Overdrive.

I've never been a fan of the CCC, rather I install the drivers that I need, the old fashon Control Panel and ATITool.

ATITool can OC on the fly when I launch a 3d app, and set default values when I'm done. the only reason I load the std control panel from ati is that I can change resolutions on the fly from the tray icon. to me the CCC is total bloatware and until .net is made "part" of windows I won't use it.

Ok as long as you put a 120mm fan on the vreg and mosfets
