ATI or Nvidia?

I am about to build a new system with the I7 Extreme and the ASUS Rampage II MB.
I have been using nvidia since the 6000 VC's and I currently have two 8800 GTX's in SLI.
I am strongly considering two ATI 4870X2's in this build. I will be using a 30" Dell or Samsung for the display so max eye eye candy at 25X16 is a must
Looking for opinions and advice.

doesn't matter which company, both have great performance...Figure out how much your budget is and then select that card or cards in that price range. if you have a 30 inch screen will you be playing games at that full resolution or just have that high of a resolution for the desktop and play at a lower resolution?
 
I would go ATI because your post sounds like you enjoy eyecandy. ATI has superior AA and IQ, so go with the best eye candy at that resolution. IMO 1 4870x2 would be enough or 2 GT280s.
 
Seems true, I've noticed better IQ in videos and games from the 4870x2 vs my gtx260. 4870x2 is pretty awesome as it is, plus it saves you space and heat from running two gtx280s. The only good option for running two GTX280s is the X58. Plus the x58s will probably undergo revisions...and there will probably be a lot of compatibility issues that will arise, etc. If you choose GTX280s, I'd wait a while before jumping on an x58. If it were me I'd go with an asus rampage x48 and a 4870x2.

Completely false. NVIDIA's AF is superior, even though while gaming there's really no noticeable difference. Only with still images. As for AA, they're pretty much evenly matched.

The performance crown is on ATI's side this time, with the HD 4870 X2, but being Crossfire on a card, doesn't make it scale well in some games, so be sure to consider that, before you purchase anything. The GTX 280 is not as fast as a HD 4870 X2, but it's cheaper and is not plagued with SLI problems, since it's a single chip card. Both cards should excel at 2560x1600, with plenty of eye candy. Both sides have excellent IQ. NVIDIA does have an edge in AF, because it's totally angle independent, but that difference isn't noticeable while playing games, only when looking at still images. So overall, they're pretty much the same.

Thanks for all of the replies. i am going to order everything the first week of December and unless something changes I will go for 2x280's.
