I have a old system, but don't play hardly any games on the rig. My current card is a Radeon 64DDR, but it won't support dual monitors. Which is the main reason for upgrading.

Just wondering if someone can suggest a good card for not alot of money.

Not really, the 9550 plays UT2k4 beautifully @ 1024x768 on medium, and runs HL2 @ 1024x768 on high just as well. Of course, Doom 3 would run like crap as it does on all ATI cards.
 
It depends on what "not a lot of money" means to you. If you're looking for the best value that will last you for a while with upcoming technology and games, then you should definitely look at the 6800nu or a 6600GT. If thats too much money, consider looking into finding a 5700le or 5500 on sale. Best Buy sometimes has great sales on those cards down to about $80 or $70. If you can put up with ATI's drivers, then BB sometimes has 9600XT's on sale for $70 as well.
 
Only place ATI's drivers fall short is in OpenGL... if you ignore the steaming pile of shit that is the Catalyst 5.2 suite.

I will be building a new machine late this year. But for now just want to upgrade the gfx card to something thats alot better.

Not alot of money is no more than £100. Cheaper the better!

Are the FX5700LE any good?
 
From what I've read the performance is about equal to the Ti4200, so about 50% of the 9550.
 
Okay, I have been an NVidia user since I upgraded past my almighty Rage IIc card quite a few years ago, so riddle me this...

How does the 9550 256mb card compare to the ti4600 128 I currently have in terms of performance? And, is the 9550 DX9 compliant?

I am looking for an upgrade... and I am NOT going to spend $250+ on a video card that will be marginally better. BTW: I am looking for an AGP 8x compliant card... and mainly play HL2, etc, and the NV FX line sucks, which is why I am now looking at ATI.

Mayhap this clarification will help the OP, whose forgiveness I beg for posting in his thread.
 
Since a 9600 Pro is only like $100 on newegg.com, I don't get why people are suggesting something SLOWER than a 9600np. :confused:
 
Overclocked the 9550 hits _just_ below 9600 Pro performance at $30 less. When you're talking about a $105 128MB 9600Pro 25% less cost is a big thing, especially when performance is near equal, you get double the memory, same 128bit bus, and they are both DX9 cards.
 
Yes and $30 gets you a card that OCs to 9600XT speeds, I don't get it either CB even since I've read nothing good about those 9550 cards. Personally I'd just take my money and try to get something in the FS forum here but he just wants something that does dual moniters so something from a 9200/5200 on up would work.
 
I went for the FX5700LE so I can now run Dual TFT's. Was only £65 to my door!
