Does anybody have any information on this graphics card? I saw a laptop for sale here with that card, but near to no information on it. I know it is a lowend R600 mobility variation for directx 10, but I can't seem to find any benchmarks or anything.

I am curious how it will perform before I buy it as the stores here typically have a no return policy. Any information would be helpfull.

huh

how are they selling laptops with a R600 base chip when there is little concrete info on the dam thing?

Where is this laptop for sale, and i would stay away since it looks like whoever is selling it is trying to take advantage of the R600 hype

edit****My apologies to the OP, I just saw this story on anandtech http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5802

Why is the laptop version of the R600 being relaesed in a couple of weeks when the desktop R600 is being released around Cebit in March?
Something is not adding up for me

Probably because of the current laptop market share...I mean laptops are huge right now, it's probably more beneficial for manufacturers to cater to laptop enthusiasts then desktop enthusiasts.

Because this is the low-end member of the X2___ family; it uses HyperMemory and is there to meet the requirements for Vista- it's a true DX10 part, where the X1___ will run Aero and not much else. Expect nVidia to do something similar.

The waters are very muddy at the moment.

If you do a bit of Googling you will find that there are X11 linux builds that list the following ATI chips:
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (M54-P 7145)
ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 (M64S 7188)
ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 (M64M 718A)
Radeon X2300HD (RV550 7200 7200)
Mobility Radeon X2300 HD (M71-M 7210)
Mobility Radeon X2300 HD (M71-S 7211)

But you can also find references to "Mobility RADEON X2300 (M54)".

So, there is apparently an X2300HD using the R550, and Mobility X1400 and Mobility X2300HD both apparently using the M54.

Basicly there are rumours/discussions whether ATI is doing "name engineering". Is this misleading? Dunno, after all they have demo'd DX10 on R5xx GPUs.

Something's always told me this could happen.

Yea the Asus one is the one that is for sale in town here... its roughly 1400$ USD when you adjust with exchange rate.

I think I am just going to wait as I can't find any concrete information on what the chip is capable of..

ATI's laptop chipset part numbers don't match up with the desktop versions.

I have a feeling this will not be a DX10 part, as Asus's website makes no mention of DX10.

It also uses HyperMemory, aka "uses system RAM for graphics RAM". You know, what the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel value cards do? Yeah, it does that.

ATI's last few laptop chipsets have all been mid-range moderate performance parts. Their high-end practically doesn't exist.
