ATI Intros First 1GB Graphics Accelerator

Of course, it's a work station card, memory is one of the most important factors of a work station card.

What upsets me about this is there is no Crossfire capable platform for dual Opteron systems to use these things. Only nVidia seems to care about the high end workstation market.

Which is odd, because that's what the FireGL is supposed to target.

Except that crossfire DOES work on any dual PCIe system, it's the drivers that stop it.

There was an article I read where they actually enabled crossfire on an nvidia sli board...sound like the drivers are all you need to be concerned with, but yes, thats an ATi issue, so maybe ATi doesn't want to be in the professional AMD motherboard market.

NVIDIA has like 65%+ of the workstation market, and 3D Labs is gone now, if ATI can make some noise that might bring in new business

YesI realize that. The same is true of SLI as well. The problem is that nVidia and ATi have their drivers locked down right now. Though ATi does not allow the use of Intel chipset based boards and Crossfire. So you can build a Xeon system and use Crossfire. So they aren't totally out of that market, but they haven't embraced it the way nVidia has.

I agree with you 100%, that is odd
