In that respect, can you point out some of the differences you see between NVIDIA and ATI regarding company philosophy, teamwork, business ethics, processes, etc.?

From where I stand the differences are striking. ATI is primarily focusing on solving developer's technical problems while NVIDIA is focusing primarily on paying publishers for advertising space.

I found this quote (and the interveiw) to be quite interesting. I really like this quote because I believe it to be true. Both these guys use to work for Nvidia too, therefore I would think they would know the difference. Something to think about...

Ha ha... Now I finally understood why Serious Sam was running around with his big balls stuffed inside the guns, and why pixel shaders was used for shadow culling instead of its real job.

Hey, maybe far cry could use a lot more shadow culling pixel shader ops, it would really shows the superior ATI shader technology over nVIDIA.

I agree with ATI, i wish they wouldnt advertise so much, and all the $$ they save could go to making their cards cheaper! And i believe ATi has better R&D, look what they did about power consumption, the x800xt is just as powerful as the 6800U, but it doesnt need a 400W brand name power supply nor two molex connectors.

Your statement doesn't really make sense. You compare ATi's latest core, which is a refinement of their previous core, to the latest nVidia core, which is incorporates lots of new technology (SM3, on-die video encoder, SLI interconnect, etc.), and then say ATi has better R&D? nVidia is the one being more adventurous with their research.

On the subject of power: yes, R420 consumes less power; chips with ~60 million fewer transistors tend to do that. Having two molex connectors was not so much for drawing lots of power (people have measured, the 6800 core draws around the same as nVidia's last generation core) as it was to make the engineer's job easier. Having a seperate electrical leads makes laying out the circuit a much easier task, ask any electrical engineer. The original 480W power supply requirement was probably due to the fact that lots of people buy cheap power supplies that are highly overrated. I've bought a cheap "550W" power supply that couldn't supply as much juice as a quality 400W. A friend of mine was telling me about his computer, and he said he had a 500W PS that came with the case.

Note that I haven't said either card is better or worse. ATi is getting great performance from their latest cards. So is nVidia. Competition is good for the consumer.

I think, ati's profits will continue to surge. If you look at it, they have a cheaper to produce core, less complex(leading to higher yields), and is selling atleast as well in the highend as nvidia. I know the real volume money makers are the lowend, but how can you ignore $500 per card on the highend. Me, I'm still waiting for bestbuy to credit my account so I can buy the first one that becomes avaible to me(xt or ultra), and be happy.

In the words of Bill Paxton in Aliens

"I don't know if you've been keeping up with current events, but we just got our asses kicked!"

That was nVidias stance after the entire FX debacle.....you bet they are being "adventurous" and as tomshardware put it....nVidia pulled out all the stops in this release....

I would in no way shape or form suggest that correlates to better R&D in nVidias camp. I tend to agree with the comment.... I believe ATI’s is better….

Making the x800xtpe to be cheaper, same speed, and use less power as the 6800U i think is reason to say they have better R&D.
