A friend is having problems getting correct dual display action with a 9800 Pro (A64 3000 rig). One display is a 17" Samsung CRT, the other is a 50" Samsung DLP Widescreen Projection with DVI and VGA input.

Ideally, the 17" CRT would be set at 1024x768, and the 50" TV would be 1280x720. The problem is that no matter what I tried, I can't get independent resolution. Either they both run at 1024x768, or they both run 1280x720.

Latest catalyst drivers are installed (without catalyst control center, that didn't even work).

Any help greatly appreciated!
 
I'm not positive but I was pretty sure that ATi doesnt have the capability to due that. nVidia has the "DualView" mode which allows you set each monitor to whatever settings you want.
 
It is possible. In Windows XP the 9800 Pro is recognised with 2 available display adapters, with independent resolution and color settings. Also, the Advanced menu settings should be independent for the two displays.

Supposedly it is possible, but for some reason, it just doesn't want to work. I spent an entire day trying everything I could think of to get it to work. Every time I click "Apply" after changing the TV display settings, it just reverts back to 640x480, yet the actual display is still the same as the primary (1024x768). Then there was another issue with poor mpeg/dvd decoding with TV set as the secondary display. I had to make it the primary display, then it looked the way it should.

I spent a lot of time in display properties, advanced properties, displays, and tried omega drivers and regular drivers, with and without catalyst control center (which was the worst). Used driver cleaner to clean out older drivers. I think maybe some older catalyst drivers may be the solution here.

Part of the problem, I think, is that samsung doesn't have drivers for this television.
 
Yes, maybe the TV is the problem here. I made it work with different resolutions on two Dell LCD monitors.
 
I to have found this to be a problem.
Boy, it sounded like a simple easy solution, but it just doesnt seem to work.
I had to fall back on power stip and I am still not happy with the display.
I'll be spending a lot more time tweaking it.
The thing that bothers me with power stip, with a lot of settings the monitor will go blank, instead of going into a virtual desk top.
In some settings both the TV and the monitor are in a virtual desk top.
I am getting tired of reading, and it would of been really nice to just lock in a res for the TV and monitor.
Does anyone know if the 6600GT does this properly?
