other downfalls(poor picture) Can someone please help me
Tim,Canada:confused:

Are you going to the LCD (presumably a TV) via VGA cable, DVI, HDMI, or what?

What exact model is the TV? Settings can be very specific for HDTVs, and some make very poor monitors.

Did you have this TV working well as a monitor before buying the HD 4890? If so, what was your previous card?

Sorry, but we need more information before we can be much help.

I had a Nvidia 8800GTX video card with perfect pictue. I hv 42" Viewsonic LCD
DVI Connection

Exactly where do I go in my profile to enter my computer specs please?

What resolution are you trying to run at?

Could you explain the problem a bit more?

Are you running the most recent ATI drivers?

Does the video card work perfectly fine if you use a regular computer monitor instead?

tmond, edit your signature here.

It could very possible that your TV just isn't up to the challenge. Try forcing the resolution to 1280x720P or 1920x1080i/p

Model of monitor is viewsonic N4785P.
Resolution 1680 x 1050 x 32
Problem.Picture a little snowy. Picture flickers
Drivers. I don't know how to find out. I just got Vista which is new to me and I don't know how to check.
Your last question. Have not tried.
Tim

For Drivers - Go to ati.com and on the top right there is a small section to Download Drivers. Just fill out the drop down menus.

Lastly - It would be worth trying to connect the computer to a regular monitor that you have lying around. See if the problem exists there as well in order to assure yourself that it is not the TV that is faulty.

It's a TV -- don't try to run PC monitor resolutions on it. Switch to 1920x1080 and it will probably stop looking strange.

Well tmond, the issue with the TV is because you're using it at that resolution. Download the new Catalyst, install it, go to the settings and try changing the HDTV settings.

if that doesnt work, try connecting to another display. if it is ok on that one, time for a new viewsonic.

Do I have to uninstall the old drivers before installing the new ones. And also.....viewsonic does supply drivers.Would it be a good idea to install them?
Tim

Yes, install Viewsonic's drivers. No, you don't need to remove the old ATI drivers before installing the new ones... but you should definitely remove the old Nvidia drivers if you haven't already, assuming you didn't reformat / reinstall before switching cards.

With CCC, some people recommend doing that, but I usually just install over, the software manager uninstalls the old stuff. Vista probably just had a generic driver anyway.

Run this to clean out the old drivers: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

Reboot.

Install new ones.

Reboot.

No need to install the Viewsonic drivers.

+1 to this with some minor adjustments.

Download driver sweeper, save it to the desktop, download latest driver for the card, save it to the desktop,

Go to Device Manager (right click on my computer -> properties -> device manager) open up your display adapter, and uninstall/remove it.

Open C:\NVIDIA and delete the entire folder. (if it is still there from previous installation)

Reboot the computer into safe mode (press F8 at the bios logo screen on reboot)

Once in safe mode then run driver sweeper and select NVIDIA Display adapter and AMD display adapters, when it is finished running reboot into normal desktop.

Vista will automatically install a generic driver, don't worry about that.

Run the display adapter you saved earlier to your desktop and reboot when it is finished.

That's it, this is the safest, cleanest method to install your display drivers, to avoid any conflict.

Good luck!

Have you tried it with another monitor yet? This sounds like what happened to my 4890 when the memory started failing

Tmond, edit your posts to add more information instead of the double/triple posting.

Don't do anything to the drivers until you know what is having trouble--the tv or the card. Plug the card into a monitor and see if it still has problems, if it does, update your drivers, if it still has problems, try different cables, if it still has problems, your card is bad.

First check that the tv works fine as a tv with no messed up picture on a regular HD channel. If the graphics card works fine on a PC monitor or other tv, increase the output resolution to the tv to 1920x1080, this is the HD resolution your tv wants to display, anything less and your picture will be fuzzy and blurry. If it's still having problems, turn the refresh rate up. If it's still having problems, try different cables or a different port on the tv if possible. If it still isn't working and you know the card and tv are in working condition after isolating each, it's likely your tv just isn't built that well and it doesn't like the 4890's signal.

The above troubleshooting steps will identify your problem, follow each step of the process and you'll know which is bad.

Drivers available for download:
Vista/Windows 7 9.6
" " 9.3.1

I hv the latter.Am I ok/Up to date?
Tim

I hv Vista 9.3.1 installed as they hv

they also hv Vista/Windows 7 9.6

Can I insatll the latter>
Tim

He's using a 720p/1080p tv at 1650x1050. Its no mystery why he's having issues. Tmond, try setting your resolution to 1920x1080 OR 1280x720 to see what it looks like.

Don't waste your time using driver sweeper unless you're having issues right after installing newer drivers. If you do sometimes CCC will give you an error that you can't use CCC with that version of the driver.
