ATI HD4850 Temps & Possible Cooling Solution

So I bought this ATI HD 4850 card a little over 2 years ago, about when they first hit the market (I think literally a week or two after they did).

I haven't really had the time to game or anything in the past half year, so the graphics card has more or less just been sitting in my machine playing hulu videos (nothing strenuous).

Last night though, I decided to test out Folding@Home's GPU client. First thing I noticed was that DARN THAT FAN IS LOUD. I never remembered it being that loud before, even back when I first got the machine. Then I checked my GPU temps, and I was at 108 C at full load!!! I opened the case up and the temp dropped down to 105 C, but that's still unbelievably (and unsafely) hot!

This weekend, I plan on cleaning stuff out in the case... dusting the fans, etc. I use to game on the machine, so there was a time I actually used the gfx card, and I don't remember the fan ever having to work that hard/loud, so a small suspicion of mine is that over time, I have dust everywhere which is restricting air flow / fan effectiveness.

Now, after I do that, if I'm still getting really high temps, I'm thinking about getting a GPU HSF unit.

Seems to have overall good reviews and such, but the 4850 isn't listed as one of the compatible models. Also, I've never purchased/used a GPU cooler before, so is there anything additional I should take into account? Lastly, can these things be re-used? If I was to buy a new graphics card next year, can I re-use this GPU? Or is it sort of like a sunk cost...

My Asus 4850 512mb that I bought the week it came out was running 90c idle and 117c under futuremark load. I replaced the TiM and now it's around 64c idle and 107c load. I don't have anything to say to really help you OP just relating that, yes, the 4850 is one hot sonofabitch.
 
Google 4850 + Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 rev 2

Under $25 shipped right now, will drop your temps to around 55*C load and 40*C idle with a silent 800rpm fan. Very excellent when used passively as long as you have air moving around it.
I am not sure if they include enough heatsinks for the VRMs and mofsets but I would suggest picking up a pack of cheap/good aluminum ramsinks for those.
