ATI HD3200 - 100% CPU Usage...

trying to figure out why, while playing 1080p hd content (.mkv), with windows media player, media player classic, VLC, zoom player, etc. CPU usage will be at 100% even though the integrated ati HD3200 gpu is supposed to be doing hardware decoding on h.264

i've tried the 8.8 catalyst drivers, and tried some older 8.1's also but cpu usage is always at 100% and video playback on these files is very choppy

as far as codecs, i've tried CoreAVC, as well as ffdshow, neither solves the choppiness issue

any ideas what would cause this?
 
Have you tried the 8.12 drivers?
They fixed quite a few problems for myself. Otherwise, i'd wait for the new 9.1 drivers, as they are supposed to fix a LOT
 
Edit: Try the 8.12 drivers. They're working well for me. Mobo is Biostar TA780g
 
solved it, using the MPCVideoDec.ax DXVA hardware decoder (Works if your GPU allows h264 hardware decoding)

1080p playing great now
 
Yea, you have to make sure DXVA is actually active and working.. :)

It's not all automatic unfortunately... and it's more of a pain then it's worth imo... I'd rather just get a faster processor and be done with it... use XBMC like I wanted to
