ATi HD 3870 Temps?

I have a question, My 3870 runs at 49*c idle according to ATITool and 90*c at load. I was wondering what everyone elses temps are for the 3870 and what is acceptable for the card? I am just wondering because 90*c at load seems a little high if you ask me.
 
Seems to me that your fan speeds aren't changing.

I locked mine at 50% and it never goes above 80C.
 
80-90 degrees C under load is pretty standard without manually changing fan speeds or installing an aftermarket heatsink.
 
My club3D 3870 temps below:

idle @ ~55c
load @ ~90c

The load value is for the peak heat I have observed, temps are usually bit lower usually. I have not tuned the fan speed at all as I like the card whisper silent.
 
Ok so well I just installed the Aceelero S1 heatsink with the Turbo module and My temps with a mild over clock @ 810/1179 are 31c idle and 47c load.
 
If you install the fan fix bios for the 3870 your temps really improve. I was getting around 49 idle and 70-80 on load with the orginal bios, but when I flashed the card the temps have never gone above 63 and this is after hours of gaming. I get around 46 at idle. For some of the cards with the orginal bios the fan never speeds up at all no matter what the temps are like. I have the card overclocked to 840 core and 1200 memory.
 
Could somebody tell which manfacturers have released an updated BIOS with better fan control? And obviously can I in example install Sapphire BIOS to my Club3D card ? Should not be a problem, but just double checking.

ps. Does the new BIOS make the card much louder?I like the totally silent 3870 and would not like to change it drasticly, then again the lower temps are too tempting :)
 
Oh its a 3870 and nope it aint stock. 860 on core and mem is stock. Im waiting till my rig is all together before I do the little pencil mod and change the bios.

If you look up 3870 fan fix bios you will find detailed instuctions, and the bios that you need. It isn't one bit louder than the normal bios.
 
It was easy I just up'd the slider and played cod4. The temps are better than what it was at which was 90c and that was really at stock. I think 55ish is acceptable.
 
Just flashed my 3870 with the latest ATI BIOS .073 , the original was .067.

Temps have dropped dramaticly.

idle 57c -> 47c

load 90c -> 67c

But the fan noise increased naturally aswell :/ Iam thinking about 3rd party cooler once again ;)

Anybody got .71 BIOS on their 3870, Iam curious to which speed is the fan set on idle with that bios?

I never did the bios upgrade. I just bought a aftermarket cooler. And I can tell you its better than any stock cooler. And its absolutely quiet.
 
RivaTuna FTW boys.

I have it set to whenever Temp breaks 60c fan speed increased to 55% and it never breaks 75c on stock cooling during full load.. And at that fan speed its not too loud, anything over 60% gets very noticeable in my surroundings.

Also anything below 60c fan speed drops to 25% which is where it sits at idling on the desktop, and is very quiet.

I'm also using the 830/1200 unlocked bios.

Without using Riva and on the original bios it idles at like 0% fan speed at times, and won't hit the higher RPM's until it breaks like 80-90c which is a no no for me.
 
i have rivatuner. just no clue how to set up anything as im new to it.


but thats how i monitored my LOAD temps. over a 20 mins session of crysis.
 
I have a very faint feeling that my 3870 fan might be broken in some way.

Because of this I had to flash back my original Bios which has idle fan set to 23%. With the latest Bios (.73) the fan was set to idle 40% which was great temp wise but the fan sound was not. It would be ok if my 3870 fan made your regular humming sound like basic fan but this one does not, the noise is very irritating, it sound like the ball bearings of the fan were screwd somehow. Any comments on this?

Sadly I have no chance to test any other 3870 so Iam pretty much guessing here, I might aswell buy a good 3rd party cooler and be doned with it. I had Zalman VF900 on my X1900XTX which worked ok, anything similiar out there? I mean sound and effectiveness wise naturally, I run a very silent rig.

Accelero sounds good and so does the HR-03GT, good to have choices.

No comments on the characteristic sound of 3870 stock cooler? :(

I also noticed that with this original .67 BIOS I cannot set the fan speed with rivaturner to anything other than 23% , 50% and 100%. Bugged bastard :mad:
 
The stock cooler overall just doesnt do as well as the aceelero s1. Even with out the fan it avgs. about 5*c higher, something that the stock cooler could never do.

It's very quiet until you start setting the fan past 55%.

Out of the box, fan was locked at 25% and I would idle in the 50s and load at 90C. I thought that was retarded so I flashed the updated BIOS and used Rivatuner to lock the fan speed at 50%. Now even clocked at 885 / 2500, I load at 75C and I still never hear the fan.

The stock cooler is very quiet, even on the medium speeds. I just don't really see the point of an aftermarket air cooler when this thing is silent, relatively cool AND highly overclocked with the stock cooler.

Idk seems that most who have a 3870 that don't temper with it and leave it at stock will see it hit 90*c easily on games like crysis and such. I used ATi Tool to see my temps at the time idk about him but.
 
Again, I'm wondering why you guys don't use Rivatuner to speed the fan up if the temperature concerns you? As long as it's stable anyway, what's the big deal if it goes to 90C?

My GPU was stable at 90C until I started overclocking it. Then I used Rivatuner to speed up the fan, and bam, no more problem. The core clock goes literally as far as the slider in the Catalyst Control Center allows it...
 
I believe 90C is close to max that the card can take. I decided to start using Rivatuner for fan speed control and almost forgot to force the fan speed to be set to 60%. The card was idling at 74C @ 297mhz before I flipped the switch and it went down to 37C

Hmm well thats weird, my fan makes this kinda annoying roaring sound even at 40% fan speed, definetly not just air moving sound.

Gotta test it out again with the latest Bios as the original Bios fan speeds are bugged somehow. Thanks for your input.
