ATi - Graphics and Physics on one card

Looks as though it could be one fat card though!

Slower than an x1900 as well :(

Not quite ATi's Panacea for the 7950 then, but at least it could do effects-physics on one card...

Just saying it like the article does - it's been proved a load of times on this forum that a lot of people just don't get the difference. I don't mean that in a bad way wrt them, it's just a new area of interest so of course people don't get it all in one go - everything's like that :)

Speaking of effects-physics: it just occured to me that game devs probably won't be able to do sound for any of the bits of rubble as collisions won't be fed back to the CPU. So you get this whacking great explosion and all this stuff goes flying but none of it makes any noise - I'm going to be disappointed if that turns out to be the case :(

Just my point, no need in adding to the confusion ;)
Some poeple are more than enough confused as it is already.
This will only add to the confusion.

It's funny, you know...Havok has been running physics since 2000 on the CPU...but it wasn't untill AGEIA came along they strated talking about dedicated hardware effect-physics.
And then sudenly NVIDA and ATI started the PR-machine...they must have been fearing being left behind or smething.

Good point...hadn't thought of that one myself.
I wonder if there are more of that kind people havn't thought of?

Terra - I couldn't fit that card into my case...it would get in a "physical" fight with my HD's for space ;)

Now that i certainly doubt. Both, ATI and nVidia certainly don't fear AEGIA. If they would fear them, one of them would've bought them (and probably will) already. Let's simply face this: In the near future, the company called AEGIA will cease to exist one way of another. One of the big guys will simply swallow them. Not that I'm advocating this (competition is good), but it's bound to happen and it'll be rather sooner than later.

Your post actually confirmed what I said?

And let me get this right...physcis done by AGEIA is "bad"...but if ATI or NVIDA buys them...it's suddenly "good"?

Terra - Sure you understand what you just posted? ;)

Terra, sit back and relax for a moment (you should do that more often btw). Nowhere did i say that one or the other company or their product is better. So there is no need to roll your eyes in this case.

So, please sit back and make sure you understood what i posted.

I run my life, you will run your life..okay?!

So, please sit back and make sure you understood what i posted.

Then you need to elaborate...

Terra,

all i said was that Aegia is most likely not big or financially strong enough to compete with the "big guys" in the long run and that one of them will buy them out sooner or later. It's easier and most likely cheaper for them to buy an already built physics engine / hardware than developing their own. Nothing more, nothing less.

And btw, i didn't try to tell you how to run your life. All I'm telling you is that you should not jump on people before understanding what they've posted. I thought you're from Denmark. Do you have some some italian blood in you? You seem awefully temperamental.

Why would ATi/Nvidia be scared about a company trying to take over a market they weren't even in? What they saw was an open market to work with and try to make more sales just like any other company. If anything I think ATI/Nvidia will help the transition to hardware by Ageia or hopefully other companies that will join the game. I mean if you provide a cheaper broken down version it gives the consumer the taste of what physics truly is. It allows them not to waste tons of money on a whole new card while still letting them see what the future holds in the Physics ring. Sadly Ageia took offence to ATI/Nvidia putting there hat into the fold which is really stupid because competition can only help. Without it especially as a new company in most peoples eyes your going to have a tough time having people put faith in purchasing you product at such a high price. Then also you will have problems getting to your product implemented into quality games like Ageia is having trouble doing now. Maybe with time they can overcome this but they really bit the hand that feeds.

AGIEA is quite sound finacially.
They made a pretty sweet deal with Sony that laid down a 1 time payment, so PhysX was free to use for ALL PS3 games.
They have also gotten cash from other places...I think they got more green that you think ;)
And look at who the guys are.
They are not newbie's..they com fra AMD, Atari ect...

Unless you can give me some peer-reviewed sciencetific studies of the differences in temper linked with nationality, I have to wondered what myths are doing in this thread?

As if it wasn't bad enough that you consistently contradict yourselves between threads/posts; all of you that debate with Terra lose all credibility when you attack him personally. Do yourselves a favor and stay on topic (let alone think about what you actually post).

Whoevers solution is the most cost effective is the one I am interested.

So Terra, no need for you to spit your AGEIA-propaganda to me. :D

So price is more important than prefomance and features? :p
(you do know the difference between effect- and gameplay-physcis, right? ;) )

Terra - I actually look forward to they release this...so their PR-FUD is debunked ;)

To the consumer, price is the first thing they at look before they look at features. If not, then everybody in the world would have high-end system and there would be no reason for companies to make low-mid range components.

Would you mind answering if you know the difference between effect-physics and gameplay-physics, as the 2 cannot be compared?

I alway look at features combined with price and...what's the english word...durability?!(how long will this hardware last me)...

Are you serious? Do you think he is God or a god? Sorry but I don't need someone forcefeeding me products that they think are superior to everything else. If I want to start a thread about how I think ATi's solution is a great idea, I don't need some PR rep. for AGEIA (Terra) coming in there and telling me how wrong I am and much better AGEIA's solution is.. I am married, I have a wife to do that.

Lies are still not a valid argument. :)

Yes I do know the difference thank you very much. :) I was born at night, just not last night. :D

When I go into a new thread about ATi/nVidia's solution and read your post, I feel like someone is force-feeding reliogion down my throat. I don't want that.

I'm not saying you are an asshole Terra, though I've thought it a couple times ;).

I am glad not everyone is you then. Sorry to tell you this but not everyone here buys the fastest video card or fastest cpu sometimes we go with what seems the best bang for our bucks. So if we don't get an extra feature or two that's fine we now have an extra $150 bucks to spend on something in the real world.

Just checking..as most peeps don't seem to understand the difference :)
And I think it's a bad idea to compared apples to oranges, but I do hope ATI/NVIDA/HavokFX soon puts out something more than PR.
Slides and "inhouse benchmarks" are really starting to bore me ;)

I couldn't care less for how you think of me ;)
But please stop lying about me.
You don't see me lying about you do you? :)

Terra - BTW #psychoace if you are posting at me, I am sorry to inform you that your lies about me has landed you on my ignore :)

Exactly my point. Let's say AGEIA PhysX is the be-all, end-all solution. Shit if the PCI version is $100 cheaper than they PCI-E version they will be offering, guess which one I am getting.:)

Hey, hey...I thought we where talking about the price between ATI and PhysX...don't change tracks in the middle of an debate...that is a fallcy ;)

It was a joke Terra, no need to get offended. :D Trust me, I've been a member of these forums for a LOONG time now and I try to see both sides of the argument. I'm the middle-man to say which is why I don't like the brand loyalist...which is what you are Terra. ( despite if you believe or not). But one thing that makes you different from most others, is you are well informed with what you say. :)

It's not a lie it's an opinion and opinions can't be fact or fiction they are just someone's perspective on certain things they see. Mine and Merlin's perspective is the same your PR guy for Ageia.

I will say one thing though, nVidias solution looks shitty compared to ATI and AGEIA's solutions. :)

I will be loayl to PhysX untill something comes out that has the same features and are either cheaper and/or faster.
It a decision based on a LOT a reading, my IT experince and general understanding of computing.
First time I heard of Physx I slapped my forehead and thought:
.oO(Now why the hell didn't I think of that! )

When I heard of ATI/NVIDIA/HavokFX's solution I thought:
.oO(This smells like PR-FUD...)
Mainly because from the get go, they got people confused in regards to effect-physics and gameplay physics.

Terra - And yes, I prefer facts in a debate...facts means more than a 1000 opinions ;)

I don't differenciate(proper spelling?) between ATI/NVIDIA/HavokFX.
So far they are all PR-confusion, secret inhouse "benchmarks" and nothing on gameplay physcis.

Terra - Show us what you got dammit! :D

Exactly what I want. I want to see games touting all 3 of these companies solutions. No more, no less.

Ok so because of AGEIA hardware physics is now capable in games. We all knew it wouldn't be to long before the big boys jumped on the idea. Now I think nVidia might purchase AGEIA before ATI will. I mean, had not nVidia purchased 3DFX, we wouldn't have SLI cards now.:)

That somehow dosn't go along with what people from AGEIA has stated before.
They want to be an independant company that soly focus on physics.
If I was AGEIA, I would tell them to forget it.

As I see it AGEIA holds all the cards now:
They got their PhysX out in retail.
Capable of both effect- and gameplay physcis.
They got 60+ developrs using their API in one way or the other.
They got +100 titles supporting Physx in one shape or the other comming.

The only place I see them "failing" are in the marketing from ATI, NVIDIA and HavokFX.
But this is new ground....we learn more every day.
Hell even some reviewers don't get what physcis is all about, but think they are evaluating a PPU and only look at FPS....or they can't tell gameplay-physics from effect-physics

Terra - No wonder a lot of peeps got it mixed up with all this physics-confusion going on ;)

AGEIA will get bought out by the company who's solution isn't worth a shit. ATi sucks, buy AGEIA. nVidia sucks, buy AGEIA. No one wants to be the underdog.

Poor S3 then :(
*giggles*

But I actually don't care if they by AGIEA, just as long as they keep pushing the PPU, and not the GPU for physics ;)

Terra...

If I was the moderator (wich I am definetly not) I would delete more than half the posts in this thread.
cmon people, we (everyone in the PPU forums) have been warned. I'm kinda sick of it.
I didnt count, but I think there were between 3 and 5 posts on topic.

anyways... I think it looks like good hardware. I am a low budget cheap bastard, and I admit it. I planned on buying 2 X1600 Pro's for $200 (total) so I could run crossfire (for the thrill of it) and use the second GPU for soft physics (eye candy). (yes I definetly understand the difference) I think there is a certain value to this card. It bridges a gap for many people who may only have 1 or 2 PCI-E slots (not top of the line rigs.) I would also be impressed if they made a dual GPU AGP version.
