ati drivers vs omega drivers

The Omega's as you probably know are based of ATI's official version. They offer a small but steady performance increase, usually just a few frames per second. At what cost, I am beginning to ask myself. I have been using the Omega's for quite a while now, recently when playing Half Life 2 I noticed game defects in certain parts of the game. Uninstalled the Omega 2.5.97 and intalled the Cat 4.12's, problem gone. I think I am going to stick to the official Catalyst's.
 
Another forum told me to stay with the omega since they are better, so hard to pick now.

What defects are those exactly? I've been using Omega 2.5.97a on my 9600Pro and I haven't noticed any problems (except for a z-fighting bug on a small rectangular part of a wall somewhere, but as far as I know that's a bug in the level, since it only happens in that one spot in the entire game).
For some reason I can't install the original ATi drivers on my card, so I can't check what happens with those drivers in that spot.
 
I only used the Omega's in the beginning part of Half Life 2, but for instance going up to a locked door when trying to open it, I would see major artifacts. Like lines of black and brown shimmering up and down the wall. I like the Omega drivers don't get me wrong. CS:S test 2 or 3 fps better than the Cat's and counter strike and UT 2004 no problems at all. For me in HL2 my problems went away after switching to the Cat's.
 
I use the official Catalyst drivers. They have always been stable for me and I don't have performance issues, so I keep them installed. I have tried the Omega Drivers in the past, and they usually ended up either not increasing performance, or increasing performance and then having some sort of graphical artifacts. I just stick with what works. :)
