ATI dream cards fall short ?

It seems as if ATI's next generation cards are falling short to nVidia. The 7800GT is $100 cheaper than the X1800XL and it performs better in almost every benchmark. I guess this could be solved with some future drivers. I've been a big ATI fan for a while but the lack of performance on top of the delays is just very dissapointing.

I dunno. IQ is very good (FP16 HDR + AA for one), performance is on par and with some of the deisngs suggest, will do well in SM3.0 games for the future.

Actually ATi seem to be setting themselves up for something, I mean they've designed (the r520 at least) for support of GDDR4, which I think is a good indicator on what they want out of the architecture as a whole.

*Also, for the dod:s high end test results (2048*1536), is that a typo?

1:3 aspect ratio. Like 1024x768. I want that monitor.

Alot of people keep talking about ATi's X1000 series cards being able to do AA and HDR at the same time, I personally would like to see it. I would imagine the performance hit makes it like a slide show. At least at any decent resoluton. The HDR performance hit is massive. Even still on a 7800GTX. Which is pretty powerfull overall. I've got to drop down to 1280x1024 to get what I'd call exceptional performance out of it with HDR on in Farcry.

AA has an almost exponential effect in performance hits as you increase the amount of AA in a game. Since HDR probably cuts your performance nearly in half, 4xAA and HDR at 1600x1200 would seem to be almost unplayable on any titles that support the feature.

almost all CRT's that are larghe enough can do that (2048x1536). Like a $150-200 (new) 19 or 21 inch should be able to.

My NEC FP1370 22" CRT does 2048x1536@75Hz or something like that.
