ATI Catalyst 4.9 not working

I'm running a Radeon 9600 Pro and when I installed the new catalyst drivers and rebooted, my display was all fucked up.. Everything was all scrambled.. Had to reboot in safe mode to roll back to the previous drivers.. Did I fuck somethin up when I installed it or is this a known problem?
 
did you try the driver without the CCC? or with the old school control panel?

The one with the CCC does not UNINSTALL the older control panel. You must uninstall it prior to installation. I was having lots of problems till I did this. Then when I finally did get it to work I was frustrated by my refresh rate not staying solid while gaming. Desktop was 85 while the game was playing at 60. I had to keep jumping out of the games to get my refresh up.

I downloaded the 4.9 drivers that comes with the old school control panel. So far so good.
