I wanted to try out the latest ati drivers on my Radeon 9700 card (agp), but after I uninstalled the old drivers I had (3.9) and rebooted, and then started to install the new drivers, I got errors trying to install, I then went back to the 3.9 drivers, but when I tried to reinstall those, I got the same error types. Here's what I get on the errors:

Internal Failure Error Number: 0x80040707 (get this pop up two times) Severe ISLAYER.DLL not loaded into Memory

Unhandled Exception
Error Number: 0x80040702
Description: Failed to load dll: ISLAYER
Setup will now terminate.

My system specs are in my signature btw. Thanks in advanced.

Also, I managed to install the drivers manually through windows, but still need to get the control panel installed. :(

boot to safe mode ... then install generic VGA drivers ... reboot ... then reinstall the new drivers ....

I've never had to uninstall old drivers ... just re-installed new ones on top of old ones ...

Just tried that and still can't install the control panel. I think only choice I might have on this problem is just to do a full format of my hard drive and just reinstall everything. I'm out of ideas and Ati Tech support's not helping me at all either, they just give me the run around to their faqs and stuff on their site which was the first thing I checked.

Had same problem. Said screw it and installed Omegas. Those worked for me.
