ATI Card... Need help

You think the saphire radeon 9600 would be better than the ati radeon 9550?

Ok first of all if he is going to be using it for all kinds of stuff you should go with this mid range pentium4 setup. Athlon is slow at decoding information. It is geared towards games and anybody here that says different it full of crap.

Now on to sound advice.

1. Cut corners on the case. get something cheaper. you can get a decent low end "pretty" case for much cheaper. Shop more.



2. Cpu wise I would say a 2.6c p4 would be one of the best deals you could find and still get good performance.



3. those optical devices are a waste of your resources. Go with a stand alone. He is going to have to rip DVD's anyway so why have another optical and also you can burn Cd's with it also so why get a cd burner.

Lite-On 8X Double Layer DVD+/-RW Drive w/ NERO and PowerDVD Software, Model SOHW-832S. you can find this pretty cheap. I bought mine for like 70.00 and it is the only optical drive I have in my dream machine.



3.motherboard wise. I would say go with asus but something along the lines of this

I have built many rigs with the p4p800-e deluxe and it is a extremely fast motherboard.

Grand total with p4p800-e deluxe. 682.00
and I even over priced a couple of things
to get it a little inflated. Belive me I did not miss anything in the addition either. I threw in a 40 buck raidmax case and I threw in a forton power supply when I added it all up.

This rig should be within your range and your brother will get some really good use out of it and when he would want to upgrade to a way faster cpu he could do so. Also if he wanted to eventually have a bunch of hard drives he could do that also.

Yeah, but is that in US or CND dollars? PLEASE remember this guy lives in Canada.
 
i would definately go with a 9500pro or just a 9500. I had a 9500pro and it ran great. I only played halo and nascar 2004 on it though. i am mostly loyal to my xbox for games. now i have a 9500np i got off the forums here and it is even faster! Go with either of those they worked very well for me.
